My answer to the important questions posed in the penultimate paragraph of the piece is no, no and thrice no.

Great read Dave I've been asking myself that question for a long time can he do it against far better teams than Rotherham and can he get us playing in a style that get's the best out of our players remains to be seen Dave.

"Can Bruce put together a run of wins against better opposition that would see Villa firmly established as promotion favourites?"

That is the question.  Judging on his time at the club so far, I would say the very best we will achieve under him this season is one of the lower places in the play offs.  There will be a few good runs of form along the way, but there will always be that poor run of performances and results just around the corner that will put the higher reaches of the division out of reach.

Bolasie may be a wide man, but the diving header that brought Villa’s decisive second goal was worthy of any of the great number nines we’ve fielded over the years.

Exactly. I loved the goal, it brought back images of Andy Gray throwing himself in where others wouldn't put a foot.

As for Bruce, to his credit he's yet again assembled a great squad, a squad where I like almost every single player. In all our history I can't think of a Villa manager that has been given so much compared to the competition. It's just a shame he's such a useless manager that will never manage to catch up with modern football. We've had the easiest start to any season I can recall and thinks we should be grateful to him for beating Rotherham. The man's an arse.

The cross wasn't bad either.

And fantastic weight on the reverse pass from Jack, Elmo didn't have to break stride to hit the cross.

Elmo puts in a good ball when he has no pressure on him and great credit to Bolasie for getting in there with his shoulder  when the defender was favourite to clear it.

I completely agree. A gorgeous touch which wrong footed the defender and gave Elmo time to throw in a good cross.

And from a throw in too!!

This for me

Back in July I posted the following;
Amazing how with a bit of pace,we suddenly look like the team that smashed Wolves.So I have to ask the manager the question, "Why do we play so fucking slow 95% of the time?"
