Lots of players don't see out their career at one club because their legs go and they have to play at a lower level. If McGinn leaves Villa aged 39 for some lower division, Scottish, MLS or Chinese team having helped us to seven straight European Cups, it won't be because Villa lack ambition.
Amen.

So are we ignoring Hibs and St Mirren or ignoring the "entire career" bit?

The last player that I can think of that played a full, entire career for us was Charlie Aitken.  I don't count the twenty-one games he played for New York Cosmos as their league was in its infancy.

If we're just talking about playing for the Villa for a long time (not necessarily a "great") Gabby?

I guess it wasn't a "full" career?  Likewise Gary Shaw.

Didn't he make a very short comeback at some Austrian team.

I can't remember their name, and can't be arsed to google, but *dons WW2 history buff hat* it was the site of a large ball bearing factory which was bombed a lot in the war.

Which is a slightly random fact to recall

I thought about that but to me there's a difference to going out on loan as a youth player and being signed to other clubs. Grealish retires in 15 years as a Villa player, his year at Notts County won't stop me classing him as having spent his entire career with us.

He played for Shrewsbury after that, which was his final "proper" team.  I seem to remember they had a good FA Cup run with him in 91, which was my last year at 6th form.

Nowt.  He made a couple of appearances for Darlington but they may have been as sub not sure, but Charlie was the one that immediately sprang to mind.

I don't think Brian played for them.
