That 50 yard run for the corner flag was brilliant. I have never seen another player, Villa or else, ever do that.

In 35 years of going to Villa, I can’t recall us winning a corner being celebrated quite so wildly. Absolutely fantastic play.

Didn’t it go out for a throw in?

No defiantly a corner.

Okay thanks for clarifying.

In isolation, winning a corner's hardly something to recall even past leaving the ground. That yesterday, that, that one act was the stuff of legend.

"Dad, how good was John McGinn really?"
"Well, son, there was this one time, Blackburn I think it was..."

He's the embodiment of the culture Saunders bought to the club, steel, determination, selflessness and quality, something we've seen too little of in my time watching us.

I absolutely love him.

Couldn’t agree more. That one moment sums up why he is fast becoming a rival for my favourite Villa player of all time ( alongside the legendary Ian Taylor)not because of his talent, although, boy does he have some,  but the sheer desire that he has to win for Aston Villa. On pure footballing intelligence and will to win, as a manager you’d want a team of 11 John McGinns .

This. Far more eloquently put than I can manage.

The dribble was one thing, his taking one for the team booking equally as good.

He is absolutely tremendous. That run at the end to win the corner just summed him up.

Can someone clear up bookings/suspension status please? Someone said in a post that he has 12 now and gets 3 matches rest when he gets to 15 however he has recently been out due to accumulated bookings and I thought it all starts again from 0 after a suspension?

Regarding SJM's lung busting run at the end, I was not the only one who stood up and applauded ( in the Directors Box no less, get me) in recognition of the fact that despite him probably being dead on his feet he knew that more time was taken up if he ran, rather than hoofing it. Its that type of determined single mindedness that will see us into the play offs I'm sure. Word up as well for Whelan, absolute quality.

There were 2 or 3 times in the 1st half yesterday, where he had the ball in really tight areas and just seemed to power his way through and away from the opposition players. He seems to do this on a match by match basis.

Best allround midfielder in the league for me.

I'm pretty sure he's at twelve. He had a two game suspension as he accumulated 10 and has been booked at Birmingham and yesterday. I'm interested to know whether the bookings carry on into the playoffs. For example, if he gets his fifteenth booking in the first leg, should we get there, is that him out of the next two games?
