Best goal we've scored for a decade?

I always get annoyed when people suggest that players are definitely leaving the club. I cling to the idea that villa are big enough to keep their best players. However, even I think this time McGinn will only be with us for one season.

That Lowton goal was an absolute beauty but any goal that goes in off the bar gets extra marks.  And if it then bounces back up and hits the roof on the net you're into dreamland.  Add in a goalie who gets back up and still thinks he can save it, oblivious to the fact the goalscorer's already wheeling away in celebration and, well, I reckon the only goal I've seen at VP better was Scholes' rocket against us direct from the corner.

I'd shamefully forgotten about Lowtons.

While McGinns is still fresh though that was sublime, it should of realistically ended up deep in the Holte. Ashame it was just a consolation goal.

Lowton wins it for a few reasons. It was my first away game in yonks, the terrace mental when it went in, the importance of it, the fact it was a defender hitting that even with 2 players closing him down.

It’s reminiscent of Paul Scoles’ up the other end a few years back, simply brilliant technique and power.

Just a shame that it didn’t count for anything.

Outweighed by personal sentiment in that case. Yesterday the goal ended up meaning nothing but as most have said for a one-off shot it was beautifully, perfectly placed. The in off the underside of the bar also adds extra drama - demonstrated finely by Tony Yeboah twice in quick succession at the beginning of the 1995/96 season.

All those are reasons why it's better, so even without personal sentiment, it's still better imo. Both are fantastic though.

If we stay up on goal difference it will.

Lowton because it was just stupendous skill from a FB in the Premier League. But in both cases the technique is simply outstanding. Both goals get better and better every time you watch them. Shame there isn’t a video of the Lowton goal from directly behind.

Did you see the game yesterday? It was a great goal but otherwise McGinn was absolutely awful.  I wouldn't be too worried about him moving on to greater things just yet.

Not completely behind him sadly
