Or, why should we keep paying £3m a year in wages, and charging a further £3m a year in amortisation for a player who isn't being given a chance to redeem himself and who we have absolute zero chance of selling.

It seems fairly clear that they haven't. Not giving them a squad number is petty and childish. Thought we had seen the last of this nonsense when Lambert left.

Surely with limited squad sizes if we are looking to add players some numbers need to be left free.

You can give as many players as you like squad numbers. They can all, at least, play in the cups. You only have to finalise your 25 man squad at the end of the month. Choosing squad numbers has no bearing on  how many players you pick for your 25. Some clubs even have trite nonsense like "The Fans" as twelfth man. They don't lose an available squad place to do so.

Giving squad numbers to players you do not want to use seems pointless and why play them in the cups at the expense of players we want to develop? If they are happy to just hang around picking up a wage without contributing then there is little else we can do than make it abundantly clear that they have no future and then it us up to them, or their agent, to try get a move.

What makes you think they're happy to hang around? Both went on loan last season. One of them went just about as far as it is possible to go without getting in a spaceship in order to play first team football.

McCormack would score more goals than Hogan. There is literally zero point in refusing to include him in the squad. Unless we have at least one forward we are relatively confident of signing.

I can think of at least one point for not including him. He's an arsehole.

And one that disrespected the club, numerous times by not even bothering to get of his fat arse to training.

Seems literally the perfect season for casting him aside.

That's a fair point if it had been applied across the whole squad but it wasn't. The main reason McCormack got the life sentance was because Bruce wouldn't have got the money for Hogan if there was a chance of him being let back in the squad.

So who else failed to turn up for training and then failed to apologise to his boss?

Because employment dictates that we have to pay him in line with his contract. As for amortisation, you tell me, you're the accountant.

If you employed someone who couldn't be arsed to come to work, and when tackled he refused to say sorry, would you then stick him up on your employee list for all to see and promote him as if he were great? Would you then give him work with the rest of your best employees to give him a chance? Would you fuck.

But you could sack him for disciplinary reasons... even easier if he had been employed for less than two years. Football clubs can't seem to do this.
