Is the Russian training with the first team squad at the moment? I heard Smith namecheck some of the other kids that have been invited over to the fancy side of the fence at Bodymoor but he didn't mention Hepburn.

Who did he namecheck? I know the coaching team have been to watch Mitchell Clark and are keeping close tabs on him.

He mentioned O'Hare and I think Jake Doyle-Hayes and maybe one other.

RHM perhaps? All 3 are presumably on the fringes of being involved.

It wasn't RHM that he mentioned as I was listening out for his name.

Academy League Today.
Villa 5 - 1 Southampton.
Good performance this morning from the Youth Team.
Lewis Brunt was fouled just inside the area in the first minute to give us a Penalty which Colin Oduteo put away confidently.  On 3 minutes Brunt scored with a Left footed shot from outside the area to make it 2-0.
On 10 minutes Jacob Ramsey made it 3-0 with Villa playing some fantastic football and totally dominant.
Unfortunately Brunt, who had made a great start, suffered what looked like an ankle injury at this stage and had to be replaced by Indianna Vasilev.
Villa continued their domination and were awarded a second penalty after half an hour which Wright dispatched confidently.
4-0 at half time but Saints scored with a free kick early in the second half and the game became much more even
With ten minutes remaining a great through ball from Substitute Ben Guy enabled Oduteo to take round the keeper and roll into the empty net for a fifth Villa goal.

Outstanding performances from Ethan Patterson at the back, the always excellent Jake Walker playing in midfield instead of his U23 possition at Right Back and Jay Ramsey.  After signing his first Professional contract this week Lewis Brunt started the game brilliantly so hopefully his injury won't be too bad.
Team was:  GK ?
Burton - Ige - Patterson - Conky
 Ramsey - Walker - Brunt
Wright - Cam Archer - Oduteo
Subs Vaselev for Brunt
Presley for Archer
Guy for Wright.

We are at home to Swansea in the FA Youth Cup early in December.

U23s playing the Dogheads at Telford this evening. O'Hare, Doyle-Hayes and Jack Clarke kept out of team.
But RHM starts.

Aston Villa's Jordan Cox inflicts first defeat for Plymouth Argyle in Premier League Cup

The Pilgrims had drawn their opening two games 0-0 but were unable to do the same at Villa Park

Plymouth Argyle suffered a first defeat in the Premier League Cup group stage as they fell 1-0 to Aston Villa.

The Pilgrims were under pressure for large spells of the game but they defended resolutely throughout.

Villa could have taken the lead in just the second minute as Corey Blackett-Taylor rounded Michael Cooper but shot wide.

That was a sign of things to come as him and Rushian Hepburn-Murphy caused the Pilgrims problems with their pace.

They were complimented by Harry McKirdy and Jordan Cox, who also looked lively.

Argyle had chances of their own though and they were the side that came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first half.

Alex Battle, who was probably one of the most impressive for Kevin Nancekivell's side, sent in a corner which was headed towards goal and cleared off the line by Blackett-Taylor.

Villa continued to pressurise the Argyle goal in the second half, with Cooper making a number of good saves from efforts from outside the box.

The decisive goal came in the 71st minute, Hepburn-Murphy jinked his way into the box band was dispossessed.

However the home side came back, this time the ball was crossed over the heads of the Argyle defence by Jack Clarke.

The ball reached McKirdy who iplayed across the box to Cox who slotted it home with relative ease.

Argyle pushed for the equaliser in the final moments of the game but rarely tested goalkeeper Matija Sarkic.

I have mentioned him.
He is still an U18 player but has been playing for the U23's this season.  He is a Centre Back who is very quick and quite comfortable on the ball.  As He is playing against players several years older than himself we have been playing him at Left Back in the reserves.
We have another U18 player who plays mainly for the reserves as well at Right back called Jake Walker.
Dom and Jake are really good prospects.
I always support the young players at the club but some of the hyped ones are not as good as Internet supporters think they are.

These two have a chance though.  Jake is the captain of the Youth Team and sometimes plays as a defensive Midfielder.
