Has mostly passed me by. I assume grunty bum-picker is going to win so won't bother watching unless it looks like he's in with a chance of going out. Might watch a bit of the Ladies Final as not overly-arsed about Third Place Playoffs.

Nadals's games against Del Potro and Djokovich were the best I've seen for years.

I see Serena Williams believes that the umpire was sexist, yet as far as I can see she brought it all on herself with even her own coach stating he was coaching which kicked it all off. It doesn't happen often but Men have been kicked out of tournaments and / or docked points in games before in top play. McEnroe who is the most common person held up as a tantrum person on the court never did three violations but was suspended for two months after one serious tirade at an umpire. I wonder if Serena will now be as well?

It was pathetic, as was the treatment of the Japanese player by the crowd, and I don't see why she's getting so much support from other players.

Did she receive coaching? Yes, her coach admitted it. Code violation.
Did she smash her racquet? Yes. Penalty point.
Did she abuse the umpire? Yes, she called him a liar and a thief, and then threatened she'd affect his career 'you'll never be on my court again'. Penalty game.

Simple as that. Nothing to do with her being a woman, just being petulant and abusive. It isn't the first time. Shame for such a great player to behave like that.

Its very difficult to put much faith in Williams opinion or version of events.

She just comes across as a pretty poor human being, as evidenced by her telling a line judge she was going to ram a tennis ball down her throat a few years ago.

I think it's instructive that both the meltdowns at officials have happened at the US Open, as opposed to any other major.

Perhaps the fanatical level of support she receives there pushes her the wrong way when struggling, and she feels that she can misbehave as the fans will side with her.

I read today that the head of the WTA ( I think) said that she displayed "class" and "sportsmanship". When she knows her standing within the game and will get such support regardless, I'm actually surprised she wouldnt do it more often if women were routinely reffed more harshly than men.

It's almost as if she was losing, couldn't hack it, blew up, and then fell back on being a woman and mother as excuses for why she was being mistreated and why she wouldnt be out of line ever respectively...

Call a referee, umpire, marker useless by all means  but low of the low is calling them a cheat.  Williams got all she deserved.

But she wont get what she deserves - which is the correct lambasting from the WTA. But no, she is Serena, so that wont happen.
Ok there might or might not be some times when men in similar or completely different circumstances get treated differently.

That does not excuse her for acting how she did. The WTA for some reason seem scared of her.

I'm sure there's sexism in tennis like there is in most walks of life.  It wasn't experienced by Serena Williams in that final though, and her trying to divert attention from her appalling behaviour by claiming that she did is diabolical.  The real loser was the poor Japanese player who she beat, who has had her brilliant achievement completely ruined by Williams.

Well done Djokovic after such a long time out of the game, brilliant effort to win both Wimbledon and US Open, 14 majors now only Federer and Nadal have won more.

She relies so much on intimidation that she thinks she can intimidate the officials as well. And then when thinks don't go her why she cries her eyes out. The sooner she retires the better.

Did anybody point out to Serena that her opponent was also female?

I think her comments to the umpire along the lines of it being the last time he would officiate one of her matches was telling.  She  now apparently thinks that she can choose who umpires her.  The reaction from her supporters to the cartoon published in that Australian newspaper was equally ludicrous.
