I can safely predict the blues game will be on Halloween weekend at noon.

Yep, many fixtures last season were on the same weekend as the previous season which makes me think the fixture computer isn’t particularly random.

It's not random at all, it's highly complex so it's no wonder that where possible they keep fixtures similar.

There will be certain dates they avoid. We never play Blose at the start or the end of the season, or around Christmas (presumably the police don't need the extra aggro at that time of year). It also won't be played when it clashes with an FA Cup game as they won't want that game switching to midweek. I'd imagine they'd also be keen that the Sty game, at least, doesn't clash with Pride or St Paddy Parades.

By the time you've eliminated all those, there aren't that many weekends left to choose from, so it's no wonder we always seem to play them roughly around the same time.

We usually play them away first in seasons with the home game usually in April.

This time I'll go for us to play them at VP first half of the season. West Brom around xmas.

Those factors are never put into the criteria and from memory the police don't have the powers to make wholesale alterations to the fixtures.

They must take into consideration nearby teams not playing on the same day etc?

Every club has a pair that doesn't play at home on the same day except once a season to get round the problem that half the league are always at home when the other half are away.

They do. It's a difficult job and often they get criticised for doing perfectly sensible things.

I hope not. Why put ourselves at a disadvantage and have less time to recover than our opponents?
