There's plenty of traditions we need to change at the Villa.

Personally I think if you're parting with £50 for your child's shirt, at least it looks different to last years.

It would look different if we had chosen green and yellow hoops with magnolia pantaloons and beige top hats.

It still wouldn't be a Villa kit.

I'd be all for a beige top hat. That's made me chuckle, mate.

For a club that plays in claret and claret it looks good.  For a club that plays in claret and blue, it is incomplete.  As for stripes, if you must, go for 1957 as the away strip.

So the two scenarios when deciding on a kit design here;

Don't get promotion meaning our current plight and a circling of the wagons, or

Promotion and full exposure to a worldwide fanbase again after 2 years away.

Either way with these two scenarios i'd have thought a more 'traditional' kit would've been the far better bet.

But what do I know about it, I only went to my first match 41 years ago.

Are you ITK on this third kit?

An easy wash quick dry top that they will wear at pretty much every opportunity for a year.  Of course they are expensive but they get their usage!

It's an odd feeling, being vaguely in agreement with Ads.

Maybe it's a generational thing.  When I started supporting the shirt was first and foremost designed for the team to represent the club, and we kept the same/similar shirts for several years.  These days it seems it has to be designed as a "fashion item"  even if generally only catering for under 12s and middle aged blokes with beer bellies, to generate commercial income which I suppose the club has to do, .  I still don't see why a variation on the theme of claret body blue sleeves is not sufficient for some though, when other famous clubs do slight variations on their shirts rather than wholesale changes.  If you want variations, stripes, hoops, pink spots,  surely the diversity of away kits should meet your needs?

Bring back airtex
This! I loved my Umbro airtex shirt. My mum sewed a white no.8 on the back for me so I could pretend to be my hero.  Happy days :D

A Villa fan that does not realize we play in a claret shirt with light blue sleeves.

So have we always played in claret shirts with light blue sleeves?

Villa kits history

The home kits section of that link shows that since we settled on claret and blue, around 1897, there have been only about 12 or 13 versions of the shirt that were not claret body with blue sleeves, out of about 130 seasons.   Most of those were in the 80s and 90s when I suppose tradition began to give way to commercial interests.  I'd say that well over 100 years of playing in claret body with blue sleeves establishes it as some sort of tradition or identifier of the club, one that has been passed down through several generations.  Some things should not be messed with.

I couldn't agree more.
