I was born in 77 and had that 86 Hummel shirt, I use to find it uncomfortable where the stripes were and not particularly attractive. My first kit was 83/84 which I still see as a classic, especially the away one.

Wasn't it Henson, the 86 kit? without a badge on it?

I've still got my Hummel away kit, the stripey one from the promotion season. Seems to have shrunk a bit though..... is it worth anything?

I've still got mine as well. Mine have shrunk as well. How very odd.

He says in the video that one of his favourites is the Hummel 87/88 kit, same as me. Watching that I think it will look great and remember in 12 months time we will be having this same conversation again about what the following seasons kit will look like.

Wasn't a fan of those Hummel efforts (both incarnations) at all.

Though I can see why the 87/88 one would be associated with happier times.

Graham Taylor wasn't a fan either, think he took to the programme notes to say he insisted the shirt should be a proper Villa one by 89/90.

Let's hope we're not just a tad naive about the fact he's a Villa fan.

He's a bloke and he designs stuff. People will still love it or hate it; who he supports isn't really relevant.

Pretty much this.

Not really, if you asked most people on here, or any other fan site, what a villa kit should look like you'd get fairly similar answers:

proper claret body (not some pinky purple)
blue sleeves
white shorts
and a disagreement over the socks (blue for me)

Given he's a fan he'll know those 'rules'.  That doesn't mean he'll feel obliged to follow them but if he chooses not to it it won't be through ignorance, that's the real difference.

Can't be that difficult hitting claret? from Wiki.

Claret

Color coordinates
Hex triplet   #7F1734
sRGB*  (r, g, b)   (127, 23, 52)
CMYK**   (c, m, y, k)   (0, 82, 59, 50)
HSV       (h, s, v)   (343°, 82%, 50[6]%)

*: Normalized to [0–255] (byte)
**: Normalized to [0–100] (hundred)

Seems easy... But its not necessarily the claret we want. We (I) want the claret we wore in the late 70s early 80s which probably wasn't based on those colour co-ordinates. Not that I am particularly entitled to a view. I haven't bought an official shirt since about 1990 and the last Villa apparel I bought was a t-shirt with Martin O'Neil's face transposed on to Alberto Korda's iconic Che Guevara photo.

The shirt that fashion forgot along with the green/black monstrosity.

Probably because of my age I have always been fond of these two.

I think the thing that has made me like some shirts more than others is mainly down to the quality and feel of the shirt. Better quality, the better i like it. Hence thumbs down to: Macron Hummel of late. Liked the Reebok and Nike.

According the the noses Luke has made a commercial error that could really affect his business in the Bull Ring store as no Villa fans shop in town only in Staffs and Worcs.....lol

To quote "That Luke geezer so publicly aligning himself with the vile could be a big mistake for his business in our city. unless he opens a few shops in their carrot crunching heartlands he could be struggling."

The away one from this season was lovely. First Villa shirt I ever had, given by a relative as wasn't born then.

The badge came off eventually.

I’d say that the white/claret/yellow le coq Shirt is my favourite away one, despite the fact that the claret ran like a bastard in the wash. Still got mine, though.

1999/00 my favourite away. Always liked white with claret and blue bits incorporated and the diagonal stripe was great. Although if worn these days the stripe doesn't appear to be in a straight line anymore  ;D
