Correct in 97-98 and 99-00, although Wiki claimed he scored 10 in 99-00, they are on this occasion wrong. Must admit I'm surprised he never got double figures. Legend
Does that total in 99-00 include one from the West Ham League Cup game which was voided and replayed?

Yes, I was thinking Tayles may have just made it to 10 one year. So many midfielders we had the potential to get into double figures over the last 20 years but never did (Curcic, Thompson, Stone, Hendrie, Solano, Sidwell, Milner, er, Tonev).

Albert if more of a front three player than a midfielder. I doubt that he'd score as many in a team playing four in midfield.

Surprised that Lil' Lee never got into double figures

What was the most that Der Hammer scored in a season ?

Surprisingly, the most Hitz ever scored was five, and his highest league total was just three. It seems like he scored more, maybe because his goals all tended to be forty yard screamers so stick in the memory.

The last midfielder to reach double figures seems to be David Platt, in 1990-91. Managed nineteen in the league and twenty-four in total.

Christ, that's a sobering stat.

He must have got a lot in the cups, then. I was basing my research on the quiz linked below, it must only include league goals.

https://m.sporcle.com/games/NahuOost/aston-villa-top-5-scorers-since-199293

Edit: Milner got seven in the league, five in the cups.

Ah no it doesn't, in that case Wiki must have included that void game in their figures.

Garry Parker got 9 in 1992-93 and I think Barry got similar in one of the  O'Neill seasons. Didn't Ashley Young get double figures one year too?

But he’s still not a forward by definition, so I imagine he’s officially classed as a midfielder. I think therefore we have to say he’s a goal scoring midfielder albeit a more advanced one. And by the end of the season he’ll have over 15, and in all likelihood Snoddy and Hourihane will be in double figures too. I’m sure Kodjia was playing it would take away some of those goals but overall it’s really encouraging that our midfield contributes as it does.

I always class players like Albert, Solano, Young etc as attackers rather than forwards or midfielders.
