Someone mentioned on here some days ago about Barker leaving, well it looks like he's off to Hampshire. Don't whether he's signed yet. If not we need to sort. Don't want to lose him.

From the Bears website

Warwickshire County Cricket Club has confirmed that seam-bowling all-rounder Keith Barker will join Hampshire on a two-year contract at the end of the season after spending ten years at Edgbaston.

Barker, who turns 32 in October, joined the Bears ahead of the 2009 season and has taken 359 wickets and scored 3,554 runs in 113 First Class appearances for the club. He has also taken 69 wickets in 62 List A games and 69 wickets in 65 T20 games.

After playing a major role in Warwickshire’s 2012 County Championship triumph, by taking 56 wickets, Barker was presented with his county cap in 2013 and repeated the feat of reaching 50 First Class wickets again in 2014 and 2016.

Ashley Giles, Sport Director at Warwickshire CCC, said: “Keith has made a huge impact in his time at Edgbaston, winning trophies across all three forms of the game and forming a potent new ball partnership with Chris Wright, which will be remembered fondly by our Members and supporters for years to come.
“With Chris also departing to join Leicestershire, it’s the end of an era and we’re thrilled that both players are able to move on having helped secure our return to Division One.

“Having been with the club for ten seasons, Keith has wanted to look at all of his options in the game and he leaves Edgbaston with the best wishes of everyone, having proudly represented the Bear and Ragged Staff and contributed to four major trophy wins.”

Keith Barker said: “I have had 10 fantastic years at the club and enjoyed every minute. I will always be proud of the success we have had during that time and am delighted for us to finish on a high.

“I am now very excited to be taking on a new challenge at Hampshire but would like to thank everyone at Warwickshire who has helped me along the way, especially Graeme Welch who made a big difference to my bowling early in my career.
“I would like to wish them the best for the future.”

Amidst the highs of what looks like a Championship winning promotion campaign, this would be a blow.  Someone mentioned to me a few weeks ago that he was leaving and if I recall correctly, it was down to the Bears only offering him a year whereas other counties were offering two.  I'm guessing there is a policy in place at Edgbaston of only offering 1 year contracts to players over 30, but he will be a big miss as there doesn't really seem an obvious replacement lined up as of yet.

I presume they are thinking that Brookes, Stone, Sidebottom, the 2 new signings from Glos and OHD (as a last resort) will be enough in Div 1

I suspect Brookes is considered his replacement (as a bowling all-rounder) and then we've got the lads from Gloucester coming in to compete for Wrights spot.  It's a shame to not have a leftie though because they can be very useful.

I'm far more concerned about how we going to replace Trott though.

Championes!!  Massive congrats to all involved at Edgbaston.  Deserve a lot of credit for the way they have turned things around this season after relegation and bringing in a number of young players.

Not sure any of those will be a like-for-like replacement for Barker though Paul.  As for Trotty, I think Hain will just move up to four and we'll look at someone at five.
