Can't think of another player in my lifetime who was so widely respected by West Midlands fans. What a force!God bless him
Perhaps the most iconic British player of his era. He was a brilliant centre forward, and a very impressive man. A trailblazer for black players in British football. Hard for younger fans to appreciate how unusual it was to see three black players in a team. When he signed for Villa, my baggies mate had to take his poster down from over his bed. I used to wind him up that Cyrille had his most successful league season with us when we finished runners up in ‘92.
Great memories of his time with us. he was such an athlete, i almost felt sorry for any defenders up against him, and i used to make a point of looking at them at corners. It seemed more often than not they would end up on the ground like skittles and he would just get on with the game.Looking at some of the videos of his goals for West Brom and Coventry , he was a lot more than just a strong centre forward his finishing was sublime at times.RIP Cyrille, and thanks for the memories.
I remember The Holte going mental for his goal against Cov.
