Bit fortunate to win that one if I recall correctly as Wolves were the better side on the night.

Yeah not a good performance and Supertom tried his best to miss it but we got over the line. Great team we had then.

Great Cup atmosphere that night but yes Wolves played really well. Deserved a replay

Thanks for posting that, loved that team, my first full season following us and we haven’t been as good since.

Not the best performance. I had a friendly bet with a dingle at work that day - just a fiver at stake.
I will never forget the look on her face next day. She paid up in 1 pence pieces!

Yep.  One of my favourite seasons watching the Villa.

My favourite season without question, makes me sad comparing that to now.

The only question that remains for me is whether we would have been serious contenders if Savo had fired properly that season.

No, we should have bombed out of the cups early. Who wants to win trophies when second place could have been ours? (Winky thing)

This side was much like Atkinson's two years earlier. When firing on all cylinders it was absolutely as good as anyone but not quite the winning machine that went on to win the title. That said, once we went with Johnson behind Savo and Yorke the team was something to behold.

I remember it being quite a rubbish game to watch, perhaps it was a case that we were a good side to watch normally back then.
But those highlights were quite entertaining.
On a sad note, next month marks 7th anniversary of the death of Dean Richards.
