Looks like Andy Murray* will be out of the Aussie Open

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/tennis/42539620

Quote
Britain's Andy Murray says he may have to consider surgery after withdrawing from the Brisbane International because of his long-term hip injury.

The 30-year-old is down to 16th in the world, having not played since July.

(* that's the lesser Andy Murray not the more important Andy Murray, ie the podcaster, journalist, QI elf aka "Lightning")

If he's still having problems with his hip after 6 months out, looks like surgery is probably now most likely. Nadal and Djokovic also doubtful, so looking good for yet another Federer grand slam.

So Murray opted for hip surgery in the end. Apparently the op was a success - should've had it done in July when he was clearly in such discomfort at Wimbledon. He'd be fit by now...

Konta out in Rd 2 in Oz:

"It would be little consolation to the British loser that Pera’s victory gave substance to the growing and oft-repeated assertion that there is paper-thin difference between the leading players and those chasing them, whatever their rankings."

Well done Kyle Edmund through to last 16, after a gruelling 5 setter.

Dimitrov next, now if he wins that, then you have to say, he has a chance, but, in Murray's absence, refreshing to see another male player doing well.
