As history goes, probably the greatest 45 minutes ever for Villa. 5-1 up at Half-time against Liverpool was unreal. Anyone there that night?

I was there in my season ticket seat in Lower Trinity. A friend came and stood on Boot Hill (the Witton End) with the Liverpool fans - you could in those days. At half time one of their fans went onto his knees. His mates queried what he was doing "I'm praying" was the reply.
A night that will always live in the memory.

I was there, we had a great team that season, but never in our wildest dreams did any of us believe that we would hammer the Liverpool team that would become the European Cup winners 6 months later.

I lived in London at the time and although  a  junior season ticket holder (in them days could use the Witton or the Holte) had to go to school so missed the match.

I hated Liverpool with a passion as it s a nightmare place to go , so was disspointed at the time.  It was no great surprise that we beat them and we only needed 45 minutes to do so.

I wasn't there but my brother was playing chess at a club nearby - no idea what it was called - and when the cheers went up for the goals he assumed we were just cheering corners! But then, he supports Forest so what does he know!

I wasn't but my Dad and my Uncle (both recently Holtenders in the Sky) were and I remember them telling me they were by a Liverpool fan who every time Spink caught the ball shouted "That's how you catch the ball Clemence"

I think Jake Findlay was in goal for us that night.

I was there with my Dad, Uncle and cousin. It was some type of magic under those floodlights.

I was there with my Dad, Uncle and Grandad - we sat in the Witton Lane for a treat and hardly sat down all match.

My Mom and Dad had a bit of a row before as I was supposed to be playing the second night of the Nativity play at my primary school, but Dad said 'The Villa come first' - thank God he did !

A truly magical night !!

He certainly was.

Liverpool just shut up shop for the second half otherwise I'm pretty sure we would have embarrassed them even more.

I was there - it was a mind blowing performance, the best 45 minute spell i have ever seen from Villa. I was on the (mixed) Witton End too with my dad and remember no rancour or hassle from the Liverpool fans. Truth be told, at the end i was disappointed we hadn't scored a couple more.

Incredible that we beat them with Jake Findlay and Charlie Young in the team, so not even at full strength.

And 5 years ago today we beat them 3-1 away.

As now, was living in the Manchester area and brought one of my housemates that was a Liverpool fan down in my car, met my brothers, stood on the Holte and enjoyed the most complete 45 minutes of football from the Villa that I have ever witnessed.  To his credit, my mate was very gracious in defest (He had to be, I was driving him back to Manchester !)

We talked a non football supporting mate to come along at the last minute. He witnessed that magical first-half from our spot three quarters of the way up the Holte, participated in the deafening and prolonged ovation as the players left the pitch at half-time and then disappeared in search of his dad who was at the game. He's not been to a match since so presumably thinks it's like that every week!

Dave Woodhall: were you there that night? If so, I'd love to hear your account of that first-half performance...
