27k vs Sunderland on a Tuesday night. Most championship clubs and some premiership clubs would love that.

Good win and a welcome three points but we looked very lacklustre. It was if they were doing the bare minimum to win the game. Understandable but hard to watch.

The championship is such a long, gruelling campaign, though, this sort of thing is unavoidable.

What we are doing now is combining decent performances with the occasional case where we have to grind out another three points, and that's exactly what you need to do to get out of this league. That's what Newcastle did. They won the league but veered between convincing and just-about-good-enough for great chunks of the season.

Quinton makes a good point.
I noticed we had attracted some of our floating suppprt back against Wednesday the other week  due to the moaning when we werent 6-0 up after 10 mins and knew they wouldn’t be back tonight. Anyway a quick glance at the league table should get a few thousand more out Saturday after they’ve forgotten how unentertaining football is under Bruce.

Meanwhile the regulars enjoy the results and view it as  a price we have to pay to get back to fight for 4th from bottom in the Premier League.

Couldn’t care less about the performance. 3 points in the bag and that’s all that matters. Roll on Saturday.

Rode out luck but we won. We've only taken 6 points from the top half which is a concern but with arguable our 3 best players out of jet lagged (terry, jk and jedinak).

Feel we have to make it this year with some key players over 30.

Thought Sunderland looked decent compared to what I expected

Opted to play 5 aside myself rather than go tonight, but a great result, even if it doesn't sound a brilliant performance.

thought the jedi looked miles off the pace when he came in

Id give Jack a start on Saturday, need to get some game time into him

A few changes for Saturday please Steven - freshen things up

Jedinak, grealish, Elmo and maybe Lansbury to come in. O’Hare needs to be on the bench

Tonight was one of those occasions when you just had to grin and bear it and take a glance at the table after the game to give it some perspective. Not convincing but 3 points in the bag. I think that after back to back 2-1 wins changing almost half of the outfield players would be an unnecessary risk.

I've seen Villa in a lower Division than this one.

It's game on now. Wolves and Cardiff to play once more and the Blades home and away.

Come on Villa !!

That was absolutely dreadful. Crap, safe football but luckily Sunderland are garbage. Turned out to be a good night though with Sheff Utd and Bristol City losing.

Those kind of performances though are why we don't beat any of the teams around us because you can't get away with it. We must improve going into December.

The crowd. Only 27k, piss poor considering we were 5th and on a decent run. Sunderland had the same as that on Saturday and haven't won at home in 2017. Will it take us to be in the top two for everyone to come crawling back?
Atmosphere was shocking aswell. Silent for the majority of the game.
Did you go tonight? If so what did you make of that 37 year old getting the shirt?

Was really surprised by there being no changes. Even in the first half we were treading water but luckily we got a second goal to get some breathing space and Sunderland were as poor as the position suggests.

Have to think Jedinak will start on Saturday. I would give Jack a start aswell just to freshen things up a bit.

Not sure what to do about upfront, Davis wasn't on it tonight but we really don't have anyone else. Adomah is playing too well out wide to move him.

Good 3 points anyway regardless of the performance with Sheffield United losing. That was the most important thing.

A win but a grim win, 3 points move on nothing to see here.

Nightmare injury situation we’re in. Going to see a lot of dour stuff until we can replenish in January I feel.

It was just painful as usual but held out to win and that's what matters.

Bloody hell that was not an easy watch. All credit to Bruce for introducing a false-false number 9.
