Premier League 2
« on: October 27, 2017, 02:33:42 PM »
There was a headline that came out earlier on Bloomberg about some English "second-tier" clubs discussing a breakaway league.

Anyone else seen this?

Just read it - can't see how it would work and think it is more just a general sentiment of unhappiness with the financial differential between the championship and the premier league.

Not so sure about this but if Liverpool, united, city, Chelsea and Arsenal all want to clear off to a "European super league" I would be right behind that.

I wouldn't. Long-term, we should be aiming to compete with the very best. We can't do that if they are in a fenced-off league and anything we ever win will be regarded by the national press in the same way that we consider the Leyland Daft Cup.

We must not give up hope of being up there with the best in Europe.

Pretty pointless, they're never going to get as much money from TV while in the B League and then if you won that, you'd have stopped yourself from being promoted to the Premier League where all the money is, that you were chasing in the first place.

I could foresee a change to a Premier League 1+2, with the EFl starting at League One.  Wouldn't be a drastic change, but would bring both leagues under the same banner and possibly same TV deal etc.

Football is fast disappearing up it's own arse, more so than ever. It sounds like the owners of the 'elite' clubs are getting frustrated that the majority of foreign viewing figures come from people watching their games and they're supposedly coming round to the idea of a European Super League. So greedy. IMO the Premier League is the best league in the world because of it's collective bargaining and splitting deals amongst the Premier League clubs. With the amount of money in the game now it would be better to extend the collective initiative by splitting TV revenue equally between the 92 league clubs.

Imagine how well recieved that would be. Re-uniting league football in England, so even the smallest clubs see some financial benefit of the billions coming into the game.

Or even the grass roots game in this country, especially in the area of coaching.

Yep, the lack of funding for coaching is appalling, given the amount in the game. My son is a UEFA B licence coach but has been unable to do his A licence because of the lack of slots on the courses resulting form a change in the  Prem academies that said all academy coaches needed to be A licence qualified. The Prem clubs fastt-racked their coaches and swamped the relatively-few places available each year.

The PL could build 200 3G pitches and pay coaches to train the next generation of players for the cost of ibramhimavic's wages for 12 months....

I remember seeing a stat somewhere saying that Spain has something like 7 times the amount of A Licence qualified coaches that we have and that Germany has something like 5 times the amount.
