?% Villa - Premier League Transfer Window Date Changes

Quote
Premier League clubs have voted to close next summer's transfer window before the 2018-19 season starts.

Managers have complained that allowing players to move once the season is under way causes disruption to their squads and preparations.

From next season, the window will close at 17:00 BST on the Thursday before the Premier League campaign begins.

The vote was not unanimous and clubs will still be able to sell players until the end of the normal window.

The window across Europe runs until 31 August.

A move in the right direction. Glad to see this has been implemented.

Completely pointless unless the rest of Europe agrees. Say we get promoted, Paris St Germain sign Kodjia on the 20th August, we aren't able to sign a replacement?

That's just stupid.

It's another bonus for the moneyed elite who are in a better position to resist selling players, and have bigger squads to compensate if they do lose a player if they sell one after the buying deadline has expired.

Just scrap the whole transfer window and go back to one deadline in March, like they used to have. It was better knowing that no matter how shit you were, there was always a chance you could go and sign someone to reignite the season.

This for me as well. Although on the downside you can also lose your best player just when you might need him for the run-in.

In an ideal world this should be imposed globally by FIFA or at least European wide by UEFA (easier said than done). I agree with the point about Europe not being on board yet but it sounds like a lot of them are considering implementing the same measures. This kind of thing needs to start somewhere however the European leagues could easily take advantage of the Premier League if they decide not to. Not sure if they could also implement a "no sale" agreement in addition to this therefore negating any threat from European teams trying to buy players from Premier League clubs.

With regards to the moneyed elite, they will always be in a stronger position regardless of whatever transfer rules are in place, and it would probably be even worse if they reverted to the old system and scrapped the transfer windows.

Problem with it globally is different league run at different times. So someone somewhere is going to be at a disadvantage. Which is why doing it for this country only is daft, as pointed out, someone in Spain can come and nab a player and you can't buy a replacement.

What they are going to hope is that other major leagues follow suit. Which some of them are considering. The PL have left themselves exposed but teams don't have to sell players. What it will do is cause grief if the other leagues can still try and buy players late on but overall I think the concept is a good one.

All the main teams in Italy want the window moved to same time as premier league.

I think it's a good move, transfer window has become a circus in last few years.
