Definitely a fan of this deal. We need attacking and creative options with Jack out so this is a good move to fill that gap. He's just won the U20s with England, unlikely to break into the Spurs team anytime soon unless he's REALLY good. In which case we'd see/benefit from it this year. So there's a chance we could make it permanent or at least extend by a year if we do well with him in the team.

We seem to be acting shrewdly and swiftly in the transfer market this summer, which is very welcome and very un-Villa-like...

He's signed a new deal with Spurs until 2021 before signing with us today, so they clearly want him back - scuppers any desire with signing him permanently.

Aged 20 years, 1.85m/6ft 1" tall, & weighs in at 83kg/13stones.

It would seem SB believes that a "good big 'un will always beat a good little 'un" and probably thinks some of our promising U23s, such as O'Hare, are not physically big and strong enough.

What squad number will he get?
Noticed 12 and 18 had not been allocated in the published list.

Well if Bruce was building the team around Jack as he said, then he needed to find a replacement quickly. Seems to have good feet and a bit of speed, might even be better than Jack (fingers crossed).  Be interesting to see if he's thrown straight in tomorrow

So who does he usurp? We need someone to replace Grealish, we already have a bevvy of box to boxers who get that coached out of them at Bodymoor.

Reading the independant article about it here http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/tottenham-transfer-news-josh-onomah-aston-villa-loan-mauricio-pochettino-loan-deal-a7876226.html it suggests he is the most highly rated of all their youngsters, which is certainly promising!  I think we need to get away from the "developing other teams players" mentality and accept that everyone in this league plays this system to bolster their squads.  It would appear we have got a good one here.  The article also suggests Poch wants to see him centrally at a lower level, so hopefully he will be the box to box man.  Where that leaves lansbury and Hourihane though......

Seems like a Bruce thing to just play him out wide 'cause he's quick.

Where arguably the best manager in the top flight has been playing him.

Don't know him but happy we've acted given grealish etc as others have said

Asked a couple of mates who support Spurs:

You've got a good one there Matt

He's passing is slick, good movement off the front man, pretty rapid and calm on the ball. Just can't get ahead of Ali or erikssen - he's just signed a new contract with us and Poch rates him so I'm assuming they want him to get game time to improve, he's struggled to breakthrough to the first team. Played under 21's for England.

He might be in for a shock in the championship with the physicality, I'd say that's the weaker part of his game - he mainly needs to impose himself on the pitch more, so it'll be interesting to see how he gets on, but technically he has very good qualities.

More CM than attacking I think

Don't think he's really found his position 100% yet. So it'll be interesting to see how you use him.

And where he's struggled. It was with England U20s that he's looked most impressive in central midfield.
