This is a slightly odd game, which will become very odd indeed if Wales get a late equaliser.

It reminds very much of us under MON, sneak a goal and backs to the wall for the remainder of the game. Wales for all their huff and puff, can't find a way through a very strong defence.

Keane can start selecting top notch training facilities and 5* luxury accommodation for his players in Russia.

Christ, that was tough and nervy to watch but great finish by McLean. Probably my favourite player in the current Irish side with his work rate and knack of scoring important goals.

McLean is a proper tool.

A tool is supposed to be useful, so the description is apposite.

Pube head and the beard. At the World Cup. Who'd have thunk it? Still, at least we have three players to cheer on.

That's the first time I've ever seen anyone get a yellow for being kicked in the face.

I think Trevor Cherry playing for England in Argentina around 1976 was sent off for being punched and kicked. To be fair to the ref the opponent who kicked him also went

I think Cherry lost some teeth as well.

They aren't at the World Cup yet...they have to negotiate their way through the playoffs in November.

That rings a bell.. I think it was England's first visit since the 1966 World Cup and Alf Ramsey's animals slur so the Argentinians were somewhat hostile.

McLean’s a very good player. Great result for Ireland. Let’s hope the draw is kind to us.
