There is something about tonights Switzerland 5 Hungary 2 scoreline that makes me think the game and scoreline belongs back in the fifties. Timewarp football.
..and the Swiss have won 9 out of 9 qualifiers and may still miss out on the World Cup.
Well if they don't beat Portugal on Tuesday hard cheese.

Don't encourage the cheese pun.

It's frustrating how boring England are to watch, compared with how exciting the U20s and U21s are to watch. What happens to these players when the step up to the full England team, it's like they have all the talent and excitement taken away from them.

It's really not the same though.

It's like Villa players looking good with our U23 and U18 sides, and then being asked to play in the PL.

England U20's are often playing against U18/19's from the likes of Spain and Germany - as their players have progressed upwards. England U21's are often playing against U19/20's, etc.

We are a level or two behind at every stage, when compared to the top nations. This is why our success at lower level never translates to the senior England side.

Is that the stage where the narrative is at now? I thought it was meant to be that the talent pool is so crap at senior level that any half-decent U21 player gets fast-tracked.

Perhaps, we are so bereft, we are having to use some young players for both?

Coventry fans singing “shit on the Villa” right now in their game against little Barnet. Bless ‘em, I thought they’d forgotten about us.

Think that's why they have a bloody elephant on their badge, so they never forget.

They'll be back....in League 1 in a couple of years if they're lucky.  Bollocks to them and their stupid ring road.

I'd like them back in the same league as us eventually, so we can resume the formalities of beating them every season.

Sad lot probably dream of the day another Midlands club cares enough about them to sing shit on the Coventry during a game they aren't involved in.

Crap town, poor support (unless playing at Wembley) - taking  Leeds United out of the equation the first attempt at  building a modern football club as per Jimmy Hill in the early - mid 60's.    Just shows that History and tradition does mean something.  Without a sound base you will sink eventually.

They have far bigger things to worry about than us, like being without a ground to play in soon and and not having the proverbial pot to to piss in.  Bollocks to them and their batches.

U17s World Cup in India

England 4  Chile 0

Some great football played by England, good goals and an outfield player having to go in goal after the Chile keeper was sent off and all subs had been used.
