It's a pity we didn't have VAR last night, the red card might not have been given (seems 50/50 opinion wise)... --

You say that, but I genuinely cannot see - by anyone's interpretation of the game - how that tackle could be construed as deserving less than a straight red. It doesn't matter to me that it was Delph who did it, it could have been Will Grigg on a City player for all I care, the reality is that it was high, it was over the ball, and the studs were showing. Any of those would be a foul and a potential red, but taken as a whole it's a stonewall red card.

Objectivity aside - if Power's foot had been fully planted, that's a potentially career-ending injury. It's not far off Neil Taylor on Seamus Coleman.

It's a fucking awful tackle. Off the ground, over the ball, studs showing. The fact that the entire City team swarms around the ref to protest just shows what an odious collection of pricks they've got. Nobody should want to see that done to another player, no matter what the score is or what's at stake.
Agreed with you I think it was a red, but I think the City players were complaining as much about the fact that the ref originally pulled out a yellow card, before changing it to a red, something I can't remember seeing before.

Feel a bit for the Wigan players, as they have just pulled off one of the great FA Cup shocks and all the post match chat has been about the tackle and the pitch invasion and the Wigan fan's skirmish with Aguero.

I think it was a red. My point is that if VAR was employed last night, and indeed adopted full time we risk robbing the game of all the chaos and drama that can ensue after a contentious decision is made.

Also Byrne did a proper studs up tackle on Aguero just before yet no red? The law is a grey area and there is no consistency from refs.

VAR only seems to have added to the chaos and drama so far.

I think they usually have one card in their short pocket and one in their shirt pocket, and the referee accidentally put the wrong card in his shirt pocket.
