He was nearing the end of his career at the time, but we got a bit out of Cyrille Regis in the couple of seasons he was with us.

He was great for us for £50k, never let us down.

Alan Cox who was from the Original London Lions and ex  semi professional footballer harped on about Regis even before he became famous.  To be fair at the time it would  take someone ambitious to have signed him in the 70's and Atkinson was quite a visionary at the time in terms of  what he wanted from a football team.

Regis was never an Andy Gray and didn't have movement like many centre forwards but he  knew where the goal was.

Where did he go after the Albion? Straight to us? I've completely forgotten now.

Ronnie Allen recommended Regis for Albion, and when he was manager gave his first team debut.

Regis, Atkinson, Yorke and latterly Saunders was not a bad group of forwards.

I'd give the job back to Big Ron in the morning. Even after all these years, I'd take him over Bruce any day of the week.

He hasn't got the humility required to handle millionaire football players in the second tier.

What a screamer by David Hurst for the first goal...

And Francis coming on as a substitute, that must have been one of the last times that there was a player-manager in the top flight...

A great game, as you might expect from two BFR teams playing each other...

I always liked Roger Milford's rather 'camp' style of refereeing.

Trevor Francis whining? Surely not. Has he shut up about the play off semi penalties being taken at the wrong end at Preston all those years ago yet?

Gordon Strachan did a few seasons later.  And bollocked someone for a mis placed pass, much to the amusement of Villa Park.

I know Bryan Robson played a season at Boro in the Championship when he first took over. I'm not sure if he played for them in the PL the following season or not.
