Ugo was a key part of the squad from 1995-96, my all time favourite season since I've been old enough to follow Billa without being taken by my Dad. Thanks for all the memories, Ugo. God bless you.

How sad. A fantastic player who fought back from an horrendous debut to become a key player in the Villa side of the mid 90's. RIP.

Think this will be felt massively both here and Middlesbrough. Had a lump on my throat most the day. Memories of the 95-96 team flooding back. The best we've had in my life time. He was a success for both clubs and by all accounts was held in high esteem by many. Truly sad day.

RIP Big Man.

My memories of Ugo -
Hit crossbar during penalty shootout with Tranmere.
Making Dennis Bergkamp look like a schoolboy vs Inter.
Handball goal vs Man City.
Winner at Goodison.
Scored vs Leicester and didn't know how to celebrate it as it had been ages since last goal.
Eye injury vs someone....?

Gone far too soon.

Shearer?

Might have been. I remember it put him out for a little while - he was pundit in the Sky Studios for a dull 0-0 at Wimbledon.

Shearer kicked him in the face in 1999 and broke his eye socket. Shearer eh, whoever would've thought it?

Absolutely gutted. He was ace and a regular when I started going down Villa Park.

Always gave his all, and that was always enough. Deserved to play more for England. Always rated him higher than Southgate.

It's horrible to watch how cut up Paul Merson is there. I'm surprised he managed to say what he did.

Very sad news. Good memories of better times. Just heard Steve Bruce on the radio paying tribute although he got it wrong saying 'i played against him in the 1994 league cup final'.
