I remember one game in particular against Leicester at Villa Park in the mid eighties when that was sung repeatedly.

Pathetic, childish and very very funny.

I think collaborator is a better description than Co Author
The game of course was the 2-0 win at the sty in 70, the season we were relegated.
At the time the villa fans that were based in town (pre Steamers) were known as the Doogle , not sure about the spelling.
They had a number of wordsmiths amongst them and were responsible for many of the songs that were sung in the early 70,s
Some of these songs got amended, changed and reworded as they were sung.
Roscoe, Coog, and foxy would probably have better recollections than me.
I do remember that one of the main drafter of songs was a guy called keithy Bryston ?
Sadly some of the team are no longer with us, Bootsie, Gary Haddon, Melvin and Coke to mention a few,
Back to the song, it was sang to the tune of "the red flag" and often mentioned " Brucies Cock " instead of Rioch it also included "keeping the Villa flag. flying high"

A mate of mine was convinced Upson was the PL footballer who inserted his mobile phone where only customs officer look and then got his 'friend' to phone it for sexual kicks. I believe it was one of the relatively early tinternet 'facts'.

A story started by the News Of The World and confirmed by keyboard warriors. Who would dare doubt it's validity?

He went down injured, quite early on, the abuse reached it's crescendo and from what I recall he was subbed off with the injury.

My mate was convinced it was Upson and that Matt Taylor was his 'partner' in crime.

Although I could very well believe Ashley Cole involving a female in that kind of game.

As well as that weirdly horrible clap-clap truncated version in the 70s.
