Commonwealth Games 2018
« on: April 04, 2018, 09:54:34 AM »
May as well have a thread. Yet another sporting event being held in a stupid timezone.

Hope to be able to watch some of it, though. Scotland to win a few medals and finish above the other Celts in the Medal Table, England to finish above the Cons, pretty please.

My wife's cousin is going as part of the Guernsey bowling team. Todd Priaulx if you want to watch him in action.

I'm a bit worried about whether England will be able to compete with sporting powerhouses like Swaziland, Vanuatu and the Isle of Man.

We should be okay, there's no football in the Commonwealths.

That will come as a relief to the Jocks.

Must admit, as much as the Beeb try to turn this into a must watch, it's all a bit Alan Partridge.gif.

Niamh Emerson - from fan photo with KJT at London 2017 to bronze in the Hep at Gold Coast 2018. Good for her!

Loving the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast.
Especially the music floating in over the bowls. Sounds like a holiday camp at Saundersfoot or Minehead. Brill.

Brilliant performance from the England Netball Team, what a win.

As a runner and someone who has run marathons (but not at this level), my heart goes out to Callum Hawkins from Scotland. I had tears in my eyes watching this young man, who was so brave to destroy his competitors, collapse with 2km to go. Very upsetting. Luckily he is young for a marathon runner and will hopefully bounce back and get even better.

Very Destressing, it took time for any medical attention to get to him, but that woman taking photos of him as he lay on the floor was disguisting and she should be shamed. Hawkin's from what i've seen of him before is a potential Gold medalist of the future.

Didn't think the handover video from Birmingham was of any standard whatsoever.  Certainly did not do anything to project Birmingham as a city.

Seriously? Every colour, every shape, every age, every persuasion, every subculture, every culture. It was this place in five minutes; the best, most integrated city on planet Earth. Sod the dancing and weather, that showed just about the entire scope of humanity and why Birmingham just does "getting on with it" better than anywhere. I bloody loved it.
