Bruce got promoted with Hull in 2016, not that long ago in the greater scheme of things.

Does anyone know any Hull fans and what they made of Bruce as a manager? Did he ride his luck that season or do a good job?

I'm sure its been discussed before but has he only ever got promoted through the play-offs or did he ever finish top two?

Even if we do somehow manage to hang on to a play off spot over the rest of the season, I just cannot see Bruce getting this Villa side to win the play offs.

No, because he has no idea how to get a side promoted.

We can’t underestimate the loss of Terry. I’m seriously worried about finishing top 6 now. Top two no chance after today’s performance/bad luck.

If our chances of getting in the top six are seriously damaged because a 36 year old, who played 12 times last season, is out for a couple of months then Bruce should be shown the door immediately for a complete lack of foresight. My guess is that we'll be fine; we'll carry on as we have been which is good enough for the playoffs but not good enough for he top two. Whether that's the best that this squad should be doing is another debate entirely, but I don't think one injury is going to rock us as much as some think.

We need a centre back in January, but I think that's always been the case. We need to be looking for the next Ugo; big, strong and quick to play next to Chester next year.

Yesterday was disappointing but let’s not act as though the sides above us or just below are now going to go unbeaten the rest of the way. They’ll lose games too and we will need to capitalize when they do. There is a long way to go and we can only hope yesterday was nothing more than a game to forget than anything more that suggests the start of a poor run.

I appreciate we all have differing standards but, looking at the most recent results, I'm looking at three "one of those games" in the last 5". Poor - very poor performances against Wolves, Small Heath, and Sheffield Wednesday. That's certainly too often for any team who wants automatic promotion.

For me we have to take at least 7 points from the next 3 games with a very tough December coming up. I think by January we'll be 8th-9th, I just can't see us going to Leeds or Derby and winning. Brentford and Boro away will both be tough aswell.

So the ''tough'' run has ended and we picked up 7 pts from it, I'd say that is fairly ok. The fact is we are 2 points ahead of Ipswich who have a game in hand, with our players and resources... it shouldn't even be a competition. He is doing the bare minimum required to stay in the job, he's still one poor run away from the bullet.

Yet he got various other sides promoted who were not as good.

A year ago Scott Hogan was scoring for fun in a team not as good. Doing something somewhere else in the past doesn't mean they can do it here now. I've seen nothing from Bruce that suggests to me that we can be top 2 as we're far too inconsistent and performances like yesterday happen more often than performances like Preston.

I think we'll manage 5th or 6th as we'll have enough games where a player like Jack, Adomah, Kod, Snodgrass, Hotlips etc do something individually special to nick the points when we don't play well (Jack v Wigan as an example last season).

Ok, point taken. Except Hogan did it for Brentford last season. Bruce has done it with various sides. On a number of occasions.

Bruce trotted out his standard clichés yesterday.  Chief amongst them was his old favourite "it's one of those horrible afternoons" as if it's a random occurrence that he played no part in and had no ability to affect.  Even if we do somehow manage to hang on to a play off spot over the rest of the season, I just cannot see Bruce getting this Villa side to win the play offs.

2 losses in 12 would suggest it is a random occurrence
