I remember McLeish trying that tactic, essentially saying 'well the young players are shit what can I do?' (one of those youngsters, as it happens, is now a Premier League winner). What sort of leadership or motivation is this? Ridiculous, self-serving, awful.

No-one's rooted to the bottom in August FFS.
But it's not just about the league table. It's about a stretch of games that goes right back to the day Bruce took over. He's had long enough to produce some kind of improvement and he just hasn't. We could of expected us to be at least showing fighting spirit but we aren't. We look as soft a touch now as we've done in the last 5 years. It's the one thing he's meant to be good at. Building a team spirit and making teams hard to beat. He hasn't even done that and all I've seen is teams brushing us aside with power and skill. It's just not acceptable. Sorry I'm normally one for sticking with a manager but for me he's a busted flush.

Steve Bruce is under pressure to get it right in B6 after a difficult start as Aston Villa manager.

In his press conference before the Norwich City game he once again stressed that he hasn’t become a bad manager overnight and will pick the team up after a disappointing week.

Defeats at Reading and Cardiff have turned the mood sour despite an uplifting summer but Bruce is confident he’ll turn it around.

“(The pressure) comes with the territory,” he said.

“It is quite ridiculous after a week.

“I shouldn’t have to judge myself after such a short time.

“I have to ride the storm.

“We all want a good start and managers dread a bad start.

“Hopefully I can turn it around quickly.”

Asked whether he felt he had time to get it right, he replied:

“I don’t really ask the question but I have had talks (with the board).

“They know the club has had instability for so long now and that stability is needed.

“We’re three games in. The euphoria and nonsense that is written is quite embarrassing.

“But it’s the industry we’re in, three weeks in and it’s ‘off with his head’

“All I can do is laugh about it and get on with the job.

“The pressure is big at this club.

“I need a win on Saturday to shut them up.”

Did he have any comment on Kaley Cuoco?

Steve, mate, I can assure you there is precisely zero fucking 'euphoria' about you at the moment.

Also, I think we'll decide what is embarrassing about the Villa at the moment, thanks.

Something about hoping he can turn it round quickly.

I'm starting to lose the "he seems like a nice fella, but..." from my thoughts about him. Increasingly I think he's a Weetabix-faced gimp who needs to fuck off yesterday.

But its not three weeks is it? What about most of last season, which was as bad, and the preseason, stop peddling such self serving bull s**t, Steve, stop it. Would love a journalist to call him out properly

3 weeks is it , he has won 8 games in 2017 and 2 of those teams got relegated to League 1 .This with 40mil quid of strikers at his disposal ...jog on

I'm sure he said the same things when it went to shit at Sunderland and he ended up out on his ear there I expect the same outcome here

Interviewer - "Have you seen a determination in them (the players) this week?"
SB - "Well I've just seen a few of them there for breakfast this morning, and rightly so there should be a determination....."

Does he actually see them training?

Not sure what you can say under these circumstances, you can't defend the indefensible.seen this interview with too many Villa managers over the last 6 years.
So when your player purchases, tactics, coaching and game management get you to this point this is what is left.
Nothing.

I'm glad he finds it funny that we're all pissed off with him being shit though.  Looks like he's peddling the stability line now as well, because being consistently shit is somehow a good thing.

I can't believe he truly believes we didn't deserve to lose the other night. We were 2nd best by a country mile.

so the disconnect between manager fans and players is well under way. Only a matter of time now before he becomes another embarrassing footnote in our history. Only someone with the IQ of a plant could come out with 'the team's shit without the one player I didn't buy' and not see the irony .FFS Steve go.
