I am going to give Bruce a little credit. There is no way he has based his entire start of season gameplan on one player, particularly one who he plays irregularly. I mean, come on.

Call me old fashioned but I prefer a link man who can pass the ball to his own players, control it under pressure and dribble

Harsh maybe, but I really haven't seen any of that from Barny

If Bruce is sacked I'd like another crack at the job.

That spell in Milan and the 'bunga bunga' expose has put paid to that sunshine.

I hope he does it - I think he's got everything he needs to make it happen

Sadly if we don't go up this year, I reckon we're looking at a few more years out of the top flight.

If we are not there or thereabouts by December, he should go.

Getting a good start is absolutely crucial though. Look what it did for Newcastle last year and compare it to the deadening, deflating start we had.

Yep we all laughed our bollocks off on opening day when they got gubbed by whoever then went and won about 9 on the trot.

I think one of the biggest challenges he faces could be wrestling with his own cautious, safety-first approach.

I am quietly confident he will get the job done and get us up, but I think it will be more down to the fact that this is such a poor league with some absolute dire outfits rather than how good we are...and I'm fine with that. I think it's going to be a grim old season but I'm ready to accept the dross that's coming our way if it means promotion.

The half time rant during that fly on the wall TV documentary was your undoing.

You've got to be kidding. Your tactics are worse than Bruce's.

I can't see much point in giving him the players he wanted and not giving him til the end of the season.

Surely that depends on the season? I think we were quite right to get rid of Di Matteo and would be quite right to get rid of Bruce if he displayed a similar inability to reverse a winless run.

I'm disappointed we are talking about changing the manager before the season has even started. I think one of out major problems in recent years has been changing manager too often. You could argue that (health permitting) Houllier deserved longer. You could also argue Sherwood and Di Matteo deserved longer. On the other side of the coin I think we stuck too long with Lambert. McLeish and Garde were bad ideas in the first place but at least we got shot of them pretty quick.
