Am I right in thinking that some want us to have a bad start so that Bruce gets sacked?

My guess is that you are definitely not right.

Very wrong in fact.
Who?

So genuinely - how many games does he have before he should walk?

Hull
Colchester (LC)
Cardiff
Reading
Norwich
Bristol City
Brentford (Sept)
Boro

7 league games and the cup?

If we do not have min 15 - 17 points and next round of cup then I think times up

We got 6 points in our first 7 league games last time we were promoted.

We might as well work to the same schedule as last year and give him until the October international break regardless*.  That's 11 games so would mean he'd had a full season of league games.  At that point top 8 and within about 3-4 points of the automatic spots is the absolute minimum we should accept.  To be in the mix for automatic promotion you need about 1.8 points per game so that's 20 points from those 11 to be roughly on target and a minimum of 16.  If he can't manage that then we're not getting promoted under him.

*within reason, 5-6 defeats on the bounce at any point and he (along with any other manager we may have at this level) should be out regardless, runs like that cannot be acceptable if we're serious about getting promoted.

Brighton finished second last season with 93 points from 46 games, so that's 2 points per match.

yep, as I say 1.8 (83 points) gets you in the mix, if you manage that for the first 30 games then you are in with a chance. If at any point from about 7-8 games much below that then you're already looking a miracle run or a play spot at best.

Newcastles sequence last season x 18 games till end Oct in order

Lost 2
Won 6
Lost 1
Drew 1 (us)
Won 8

That is the sort of form we will need to win this league - and I am sorry I just cannot see this team doing that, going on those sort of winning runs, with Bruce in charge

I too hope I am made to look foolish I really do

He has the season now, no more changing manager mid-season, enough of that, it has got us nowhere!

If he is good enough to strart the season then he is good enough to finish it!

I'd be disapointed if fans had that mentality but let's be honest, there are some who haven't taken to the guy since he walked through the door, which is a shame but their prerogative i suppose.

I hadn't taken to the guy long before he walked through the door. I didn't think he was right for us before we appointed him and I still don't think he's the guy that is going to take us forward now.

However, do I want us to have a bad start to prove my point? Absolutely fucking not.

We could lose the first three and win the next four. 12 points but good form after a shit start.

We could go WDWDLDW. 12 points and erratic form.

Which is more likely to end in the sack? Should any result in the sack?

Based on last season I think it's safe to say the Dr won't fuck around.  If we get 10 games in and aren't within spitting distance of the top of the league I reckon Tone will pull the trigger.  It wouldn't surprise me (in fact it'd be negligent) if he hasn't already got a replacement in mind in case he has to.

Starting to think fate is conspiring against Bruce, given the injury issues

The 4411 we've played in pre season is a fundamentally different proposition with Jack behind Kodjia than with Lansbury behind Gabby or Hogan. Hope I'm wrong but I just don't think it will work based on what I've seen to date

Hopefully a solid defence will at least get us through the first 6 games until kodjia is back, and we find out a way to get hogan in the side and involved in the game

Hourihane behind Hogan will work just fine. As long as we try to pass the fucking ball and do it at some sort of tempo.

I'll probably have to stop saying this as it's boring me never mind others

But I am pretty sure that Hourihane never has or will be a number 10

I get the feeling Bruce currently has Agbonlahor ahead of Hogan in the pecking order and he will be starting on Saturday.

I think he will still play 4 4 1 1 but using Bjarnason as an alternative to Jack.  Bruce will gamble on Bjarnason hustling and bustling to some effect.
