The thing I wonder about RDM is what sort of say he had in the transfers. I mean, Gollini probably his call, but apart from that we bought from the expected player pool (handy PL players + high-performing Championship players).

I mean, if he had made the call to go into the season with the midfield that we had, that limits the sympathy I have for him, but if he didn't really get much of a say on that...

Tishbola was a Steve Clarke call given they'd worked at Reading. Elphick not sure but he was on the radar around the time we appointed RDM.

It was clear from his early interviews he seemed to think the likes of Westwood,Bacuna and Gestede were going to be good enough to get us near the top of the league early on given they were regulars in the early weeks.

A central midfield of Westwood and Gardner. Yikes.

I feel Bruce is unfairly characterised as only able to squeeze out 1-0 wins

When he took Hull up through the play offs, they scored 47 in 23 at home, and scored 3 or more 6+ times (including a 5-0 and a 6-0).

He is on the cautious side but it's just patently untrue to say he's a dinosaur (he was successful only 2 years ago) incompetent (4 promotions) or incredibly negative

Agree, but I thought he was overly negative at times last season.  There were games when Adomah and the wide player on the other side were defending less than ten yards in front of our full backs meaning we had no chance to break when the ball went forward.

True

But I think he didn't trust the defence or central midfielders enough

I'm not saying he's going to start playing 4-2-4 and there will definitely be times when wee a bit boring. But I do think he wants to get the ball down and get on the front foot

Otherwise why buy a small nippy striker and two creative midfielders last January (not say a big number 9 to lump it to)?

I'm still struggling to understand why he spent so much money on Hogan in January when it was clear that he was not the kind of striker we needed and still need.

We had a good run of results towards the end of last season playing a particular formation (a variant of 4-3-3 which should look like a 4-1-4-1) and I still think that would be the best bet with the players we have got with the addition of a target man.

I agree that option would be a good one to have

Jokanavic unhappy at Fulham apparently, due to their transfer policy this summer.

A situation to monitor perhaps, if Potatohead has a slow start.

He'll certainly be an option, even if he decides to start the season with Fulham.

Terrible piece, he's going nowhere.

Fulham will be top 6 at least all season, he's going nowhere.

It's terrible because it's badly subbed, not because the facts are necessarily wrong.

Not many managers would be happy to cede total control of the club's transfer policy, or have their recommendations ignored.
