I think you have touched on an important point there Kuwait.  Bruce the Championship escape specialist has stood still (and grown older) while the management skills of the Championship managers has improved substantially.
I said this around January time and got lambasted for it. I'm glad more and more people are starting to see it now.

Right now Steve Bruce has a better win % than any other Villa manager since 1926!, and that includes Gregory, Atkinson, Taylor, Little, MON

I know it's only 30 games, but if we want to get out of this division, it's about winning games.

Apples and oranges. Bruce's winning % is in a terrible league with terrible teams. Comparing him to those in the PL or its variants before is not a reasonable statistic to use to defend him. Yes its about winning, but the issue now is can he even do that consistently

Those stats are almost a couple of months out of date too.

Bruces record is won 15 drawn 6 lost 14

Nowhere near good enough for a shot at top 6 next season.

I'm with you, I've never really warmed to him as our manager because I just don't see any difference between him and McLeish and the longer he stays the more problems it will cause us, even if we get promoted we're just shifting the job of rebuilding the culture of the club when doing it this season and next in a lower league with much less quality to play against would've been a much easier transition.

If you buy decent players to do a job they are doing at their current club then why not set your team up to make those decent players do the same for us. It leaves me bemused watching how those players are now performing. You can understand a child trying to put a square peg in a round hole, that's Bruce with our players. a manager of some years who has admitted on more than one occasion that he can't understand why they have performed so bad?

Bruce has now got a very good squad and he hasn't a clue about a system to make it work. Does anyone think he'll magically get a new expansive formation together for the start of next season? Not a chance.

New guy in please and quickly.

He found a system that won us a considerable number of games in a row and beat Blues last week.  Instead of sticking with that system and working on improving it, he's changed it over the last few weeks and we have looked a disjointed mess as a result.  I'm baffled as to why he keeps changing something that has been getting him results.

I don't think he had much choice because that wasn't really a system.  It was a solid defence that coincided with a purple patch for our top scorer.  He can take credit for the defence and not losing but i don't think he deserves much for the wins because the goals we scored weren't much to do with him.

Disagree Paul because there was a clear formation used and it looked like:

                          Johnstone

Hutton         Chester        Baker     Taylor

                            Jedinak

Adomah      Lansbury            Hourihane       Green / Amavi

                             Kodjia

It was a solid foundation, but it needed him to allow the four in front of Jedinak to attack more.   I still think, used properly, the above is a good side at this level and only real needs a big of fine tuning in the summer.  Whether Bruce can get the best out of them is another question though.

Different one. For Steve Bruce he deserves some time to put his plans into action. For me and thousands of the villa we don't think he is good enough and should let go.  It's too soon to say he is a failure but we all know he is no Saunders, Taylor, little, big rob or even mon or John Gregory   I would therefore forget the niceties it's football after all and get rid sooner rather than later.

I see no evidence of a plan.

I suppose the next question is, who do we want instead? Too soon for a thread of its own?

I can see this awful football continuing and Bruce being out of a job by Xmas.

I'd be looking at the teams that don't go up. We'd stand a chance of getting Jokanovic, Wagner or even Monk.

Monk apparently facing the sack at Leeds.

Too many of our players are either just not good enough, or are never going to do it for us.

I dunno. Looked at individually they're probably better than nearly all the teams either promoted or in the playoffs. Having been a Bruce keeper, I'm starting to wilt in the face of most of the evidence that he hasn't managed to form a team.

Not Premier League quality, but easily enough to get us there.

Too many of our players are either just not good enough, or are never going to do it for us.

We've got a squad of players who will never be better than Championship promotion players, but pretty much every player in our squad is good enough to do that with the right guidance and motivation.

We're in a league where 34 year old Steve Sidwell will probably be a title winner and Jonathan Hogg is a starting midfielder for a top six side.

Without spending another penny this squad should be at least 20 points better off than it currently is.

As for those who are "never going to do it for us", with the right person in charge there isn't anybody we've broken so badly that they can't be part of a team that gets us out of this terrible league.
