What troubles me is who the hell do we bring in?
Be realistic...who?
Once Huddersfield lose in the play offs we need to go for Wagner.
Absolutely

I'd love us to go for Shavi Alonso. He has future very successful manager written all over him. He's 35 now so must be looking at packing in at the very highest level soon.  He could easily be player manager too at our level.  We'd be a good fit for the start of his managerial career.

It's a cut-throat league, I'd prefer someone like Howard Wilkinson Sword, Bic-ause of his experience.

Or Gillette a younger man shape the club in his own image. Who knows?

We chopped the bottom out of the boat bringing a foreign, multilingual, progressive, thoughtful experienced at the top level manager when we threw Garde into the snake pit we had become in the twilight of the Sunnamite.  Any attempt to recruit a non Warnock/Holloway/Fat Sam type candidate would revisit the failed Garde debacle and be rejected.  You can have as many failures as you want with safe pairs of hands but fail with somebody who wants to use imagination and forward thinking and you only get one shot.  Too risky the suits will say.

I have come to conclusion he isn't good enough...We need to be sounding out decent managers now. I really don't think he would get us promotion next season.
Like who? Not digging you out, just curious as to what managers you consider decent that would come here.

Aston Villa under Steve Bruce are Steve Bruce. Not pretty to look at, occasionally effective, never really looking like being successful consistently.

A fresh start at the end of the season would be ideal.

Just checked and it was confirmed by Wyness that Steve Bruce is on a rolling contract that can be terminated by either party. There will probably be some T&Cs in there, but shouldn't be an expensive payout if they do decide to roll the managerial dice in the summer.

Bruce continues to say the right things after and between games about the team and what needs to happen, so I very much doubt there will be any discontent behind the scenes at this stage from a board level.

That's Bosch, we need someone strong, with more Braun. Mark Venus? Super-Max Allegri?

Ugh, this one's running thin already.

I thought Slavisa looked a good coach when he got Watford promoted and he is proving it again at Fulham with a team of relatively young unknown players. Their attacking down our flanks was excellent, fluid and fast paced. The key is they played as a team as did Reading on Saturday. We still aren't one. I just hope Bruce goes with Hogan and RHM up front next week but I worry he will try and play it safe again with Hogan up top on his own.

That would be the right decision, but Bruce is just as likely to pigeon hole an unfit Flabby into the team.

I am perplexed by him. Good run, terrible run, good run, two awful results... I dont know whats next.

Strange.

Regardless of whether he stays or goes I am becoming resigned to us being in the Championship for some time. We have spent more money than we are likely to again in the near future and yet here we are. Future signings are almost certainly going to be cheaper than the ones we have so quality is going to be mixed at best. We missed our shot at quick promotion last summer.

The only problem with playing two up front is it may well mean just having two centre midfielders which Jedinak struggles with. He'll also want to put Adomah back in i would have thought as well.

As Bruce says so himself he has always played 442 but we bizarrely don't have the players to make it work.

You're not going to attract a manager like Wagner to a club which demonstrates no patience.

People on here wanting Bruce out for apparently not improving us one bit would have been saying the same if they were Huddersfield fans last season.

Our last three defeats; Huddersfield, Reading and Fulham, all in the Play Offs, all not spent huge sums, all looked unimpressive for large chunks over two games and all struggled last season. Huddersfield, who struggled the most stuck with their manager who improved them not one bit and gave him a pre-season.

Sometimes things can dramatically improve, even when you don't have millions to help you along the way.

He played 3-5-2 at Hull didn't he?

I think 4-3-3 is our best formation, especially in midfield as jedinak can play as the anchor with Hourihane and Lansbury more advanced. We need another alternative to Jedi in the summer as Gardner isn't up to it.

Picking up on the correct comment that you don't necessarily need millions to improve dramatically there is an old German proverb I learned while wearing a khaki suit.  It says the worst behaved children are the vicar's the sickest cattle are the miller's.  Too much is often as bad as too little.
