It seems that we are a collection of talented players and not a team. I was an opponent of rdm and didn't think we looked that good under him. Our squad maybe trying too hard not to lose as every new acquisition has come in after a period of uncertainty and are playing under pressure. Yes they are paid to handle said pressure and the manager is paid to find a system that works but we have rebuilt the team in a way that will take time to get working. Not sorting midfield in the summer and spending millions on the likes of rmc as well as our inherited nervousness in going a goal behind as well as not finishing teams has now come about under Bruce as well as rdm. Given time I do think we will get better and certainly won't go down but changing managers as much as we do can do harm as well as good. We stuck too much with lambert, perhaps pulled the trigger to quickly with rdm but realistically, we have to show just a bit more patience. Remember, we have not been in the second division for years. All the other teams (most anyway) have been at this level for years. I do think that at times we just accept that we are a big club and we are better than the rest. What the players manager and coaches, most who know this division inside out is to stop viewing us as a meal ticket, stop talking and do more walking so we can batter our way out of the championship sooner rather than later. Get the players working as a team, forget egos and punish those who don't work hard enough and ship out those who are bigger than the club or just plain no use to us. This falls to everyone but as the leader, this falls to Bruce. You spent the money, now show us what you intend to do with it, for everyone's sake.

I return unapologetically to my point about time.

RHM has been out injured and Davis although an option is not quite ready but having said that, i'd have brought him on the other night at 3-1 down.

Which Bruce could have done, if he'd not gone for the three right backs within four minutes masterplan. Thus wasting a substitution

Not defending Bruce one iota, but I'd like to know his exact responsibility for transfers before hanging him out to dry.

Johnstone would have been at Man United at the same time Round (and Gollini) were there. So was Johnstone a recommendation by Steve Round, with Bruce signing off on it. Or did Round say 'this is who we are signing.'

He ceded ground to those football experts Sullivan and Gold when it came to transfers at B-lose.  So if he was doing it at a two bob outfit like that way back when, I don't see him being troubled by that as a condition for accepting the biggest job he is ever likely to get in football. Again, it doesn't excuse him or give him a free pass.  But it might explain the odd call to replace a rookie with a rookie and his issues trying to mould a midfield with someone else's choice of players.

KevinGage, from what I've gathered on here Bruce pretty much spelt out who he was signing, why, how they'd fit in his team and what formation we will play at a meeting with supporters. It's pretty clear to me they are his signings.

Which for me is why just for once, we should try and stick with it.

I'm losing faith in Bruce already - I don't want to - but I'm seeing nothing of any sort of progress. I'm dying for this to work out.

I'm a shit fan.

Bruce's honeymoon is over for me, he can start winning games or he can fuck off. And Calderwood can go today as well. What's our record since Calderwood joined us? Is it me or has our latest nosedive coincided with him coming to Villa? Xia won't put up with this shit much longer, if he's got anything about him. Didn't expect us to be pushing Newcastle at the top but neither did I expect us to be so truly shit

Can't see them binning Calderwood so soon, but there is no rule against bringing in another coach (or two) alongside him.

Bruce was apparently doing most of the training ground work when we had our decent run before Christmas, so either he looks to revist that or he brings in a coach he knows and trusts such as Mike Phelan.  Or Steve Harrison for shits and giggles. Something needs to change.

isn't Clemence the first team coach and Calderwood the Assistant manager? Why the calls for Calderwood but not Clemence?

There's a scene in the TV programme The Office where one of the suits goes down to the warehouse and they're all sitting around watching porn or something - the guy from the office is a bit scared of the warehouse workers and can't get them to do what he wants. I wonder if there's a bit of that going on at Villa.

Because our downturn in form seems to coincide with Calderwood's arrival, I'm guessing.  It may only be a coincidence, but we were getting better results when it was just Bruce and Clemence.

The one baffling area is the goalkeeper - you need an experienced keeper to be competitive at this level, who recommended a youngster to replace a youngster.

Also Calderwood, Round or Bruce's call?

I would have thought Bruce would have worked with Gary Walsh on that one, surely the GK coach would have a say.

Johnstone needs to step up his game as his whole career could be shaped by this next few weeks.  When the loan was done I thought it was with a view to another year on loan if he did OK - at some point United will want a new keeper as number 2 to De Gea & they will learn a lot more about him at a club with big expectations than they did when he was at Preston.
