Warburton would be good shout. Rangers are a big club with big expectations, and he pulled them back up to the top flight. Did really well in the championship too.

Frank De Boer? Has the pedigree if we could get him to come to Villa.

De Boer is another good suggestion.

Here's an idea, the owner comes out and says " I've given you the money you requested in January, since the turn of the year you've repaid me with one point, lose on Monday night and bye bye Steve"

The Dr may as well save time & further pain by making the decision now - since there can shirley only be one outcome up there in chilly Jardeeland.

Wouldn't be surprised if MON came back.  New owner fleeced.  History tends to repeat itself.

If it were on football results alone I'd be up for binning him but I think the club is such a shambles from years of Lerner neglect that we need Bruce around to help sort everything else out.  If we get another inexperienced manager in before the structure's sorted things will get worse rather than better.

New owner, new managers, new coaching staff, new players, and still shit.
This is what makes me think there's more to it than Bruce.

What have this season and last got in common (other than a shedload of losses)?

Why is Bruce giving off the image of suddenly being a shit manager?

I wonder what the new signings are making of things? Do they think they've walked into a basketcase, or do they feel they've arrived and don't have to do it anymore?

I know what you mean, and I largely agree with you.

It is staggering. We've changed manager several times (sometimes several times in the one season), we've changed owner, we've dropped a fucking division, we've bought some of the best players in that league and STILL there are about 15 or 16 teams above us in the table.

We buy Ross McCormack, for example, who has several seasons of being fucking lethal in this division, and he turns up with bitch tits and a shit attitude and gets fobbed off on Nottingham Forest.

We buy Hourihane, who looks brilliant for Barnsley, and he promptly disappears.

We appoint a promotion specialist as manager, a man whose very name is a by-word for sensible stability, and he looks more and more like he's picking players and formations at random, like he's on speed or something.

Brighton are flying high, so we nick one of their best coaches, and pretty much to the day, we turn into an uncoached fucking rabble who look like they've just turned out of the pub for a sunday morning kickabout, such is the lack of organisation.

We have a distinctly butter fingered Italian goalkeeper prone to moments of indecision and lapses of concentration, so we get rid of him, and who do we replace him with? Some flappy handed fucking 12 year old on loan from Man United. What's the point in that?

I honestly give up. I don't know what to suggest any more. I can't even get any drive or passion up about sacking Bruce. What's the point? We'll just end up where we are, regardless.

We are absolutely fucked. I firmly believe we're looking at a Leeds-esque long stay outside the top flight, and by the looks of it, it'll start with a stint in the third division. That'll bring back memories for some, but this time around it's not going to result in the title and European Cup in a dozen or so years time.

Some flappy handed fcuking 12 year old really made me piss at work as well!  It is so right.  You look at him and he looks like the really excited kid that has been picked last in the team selection in the playground and the inevitable words 'you can go in goal Sam' ring out.

I'm not surprised that we are where we are in the table, given the depths to which we had descended last season, and an instant turn-around from those levels was never realistic.  What we have done though is to spend a vast amount of money on a set of players who don't actually look very good, either individually or collectively, managed/coached by someone who doesn't look to have the skills and acumen to weld this sort of group of players together.  What is perhaps surprising more than anything though is that there are several teams in this division who seem to be even worse than we are, hence I do not think that relegation is likely to happen.  The result, I suspect, will be 15 months or so of pretty much the same sort of thing, since barring us losing pretty much every game between now and the end of the season I don't think our manager will be sacked, and he'll be given the start of next season to 'improve.'

In the meantime, I do hope that our vocal support will refrain from singing "you've only come to see the Villa."  Unless, that is, it reaches the point where it's truly meant to be ironic.

That's pretty much where I am. He deserves the boot but the question for us is whether that will tip us into another period of chaos. Basically, I still believe we need to give our manager time but I'm starting wish that manager wasn't Bruce.

Isn't Bruce on a rolling contract so it won't cost that much to bin him if they club decided to?

For what it's worth I wouldn't sack Bruce at present, at the same time there's no way he's getting a free pass from me to potentially fuck up next season. It's up to him to prove he's the right man, he isn't currently doing that.

That's my view as well. I wouldn't sack him yet, but things need to improve sharpish.

I think it was because they thought he might get the England gig......laugh.

Can you ignore the results and turn the club around if things aren't working on the pitch?
Is there any evidence that Bruce is capable of the task you're giving him?
What needs to be fixed, off the pitch, to get Bruce to make substitutes that actually affect the game?
What needs to change for our players to start looking like they know what they're doing that Bruce couldn't have been working on for the last 4 months?

I could add loads more but if someone can answer those questions with meaningful, legitimate answers that fully support keeping Bruce in the job then I'll accept their point but for me the arguments for keeping him are:

People are fed up of change and just want to stick with someone for a while regardless because that'll bring some stability which is needed.
We might not get anyone better (although 1 point in 7 games isn't hard to improve on).
Bruce has done it before and even though it looks shit if we just stick with him it will work.

In reverse order, I don't believe anyone deserves that level of blind faith with no evidence that they're doing anything to address the problems. I refuse to believe that no one would look at the potential of this club and be tempted to give it a go, even if it is a step down for them in the short term.  I get the argument for stability but you can't make anything stable if the foundations are fucked and the foundations of a football club are the team and the fans.  He's losing the fans with shit performances and results and the team isn't as good as the sum of it's parts so he doesn't have either of those things in his favour.

No.

We can't keep sacking managers. People saying get rowett in but again few defeat and it'll be sack him.

It's getting ridiculous now

it's getting ridiculous because they can't get better results that at least 15 other managers in the league can, with hugely inferior resources - FFS even Steve's fellow antediluvian at Cardiff is out performing him.

The club is an utter and total basket-case at the moment and I don’t believe for a moment that switching managers will make the any discernible difference. We’ve tried every which way we can and still ended up with exactly the same outcome, a dysfunctional disjointed mess slowly staggering towards the next precipice. What worries is not who the next unlucky manager will be or how low the crowds will go, but rather the patience of our owner to continue to support the twitching lifeless corpse of a once great club.

well we probably know the answer to that - once the parachute dosh dries up, or if we get relegated, the summer.
