Has anything interesting ever been said during a pre-game press conference, by anyone?

Brian Clough and Bill Shankly, probably.

Why watch something you find boring and predictable and then bore everybody else with a boring and predictable moan about just how boring and predictable it all was.

If they didn't, there'd be no fans at the games, and nobody posting stuff on here!

I think it's more frustration at some of the questions asked. I presume the CB question was dodged again.

Edit: To put into context I don't understand why SB a few weeks back just casually announced he sees Jedinak solely as a CB now and that's that.

I'd be asking him for reasons why, were his ground covering stats in pre season that bad to put him back there as he was largely fine at DM for us last season and indeed played fine in that position for Australia all over two months ago against better players than you'll find in the championship.

De Laet not being used much would be another question I'd probe a bit more on.

Has anything interesting ever been said during a pre-game press conference, by anyone?

Yes. Reporter to Steve Bruce after Preston at home: "Where was Ross McCormack today......?"

It’s not the fact that the press conferences aren’t interesting that annoy me; it’s Bruce ‘s constant rewriting of history that goes unchallenged. This morning we had - Grealish was out for 6 months last season, Kodjia was out for 11, and we lost the vast majority of our team after the play offs.

He repeatedly bemoans that he’s having to rebuild the team whilst ignoring the fact that that is largely his fault.

It’s ok though as he still feels we’ll be there or thereabouts.

Groundhog Day indeed.

Yes he was cliche and standard as most managers are especially of his ways.

"There's always the next match"
For any good team the next result"
"A big week coming up "
" A chance to put it all right"
"There or there about"
"Replace the 5/6 players we lost"
The 5/6 new players need to adjust
That's the problem with loan market
Have to understand it takes time .
The longer it goes better we become
6 new players need time

Bruce also said:
"Competition for places.. settled team , team functioning in championship that can be ready to mount a challenge again "

The interesting bits are:

On Abrahams and Bolasie:
"What aboost it is to whole squad to have people of their quality "
"Tammy will play"

"I think it's still a little early for Yannick but he will be involved"

Scottie Hogan:
"Hogan needs another week or two.. still a bit early for him"

Keinan Davies:
" still unavailable unfortunately"

Also said on injuries

"We were carrying a few knocks
Jack had one , Alan Hutton had one Scott Mcginn had one (yes he called him Scott!)
All of them are okay we ll be better this week"

On RDL
"Frustrating and disappointing time for RDL.. suffered a serious injury... I think with players have ay right back only right to let him get on with his career.woild have like a loan fee but its. another one of the wage bill"

This centre back debacle is unforgivable. There is no way we're getting promoted with one proper centre back in the club, fuck him off now so that we can give someone else 4 months to assess it all before January.

I'm fine with RDL leaving the club, but why wait until now to move him on if that is how he feels about him?  I'm sure there would be takers for him and there was some rumoured interest in him over the summer, so why not sell him then or ensure that a loan move was secured that involved a fee?  As it is, he's fiddled around playing him in pre season knowing full well that he had no real intention of playing him once the season started.  Yes he might be off the wage bill now, but I doubt very much that the team down under are paying all his wages and we've lost out on money at at time when we finances are tight.

Oh and by the way, his serious injury was over a season ago now and he's had two pre seasons since then.

Moaning about what's said at a routine press conference is well into the realms of For The Sake of It.

You’re absolutely right and it’s a symptom of the frustration about the (apparent, because we don’t really know) lack of anything being done to sort out the mess. Everything suddenly seems shit and worthy of a moan. Plus most of us are Brummies.

"There or thereabouts" is definitely his "we go again", isn't it?

The whole 'there or thereabouts' is just insulting.
With our squad and resources he should be saying nothing apart from 'automatics are our target and that's all we are focussing on'

His negative chat is so draining and uninspiring. I cannot imagine how this feels being a player. Hardly gee's you up for it.
I manage a sales team and if i said to them at a start of a quarter, our sales target is to be 'there or thereabouts' would be embarrassing

Bruce has lost it. His handling of the defence is unforgivable. He pissed people off by letting Elphick go and  now he's let RDL leave on loan to further deplete the defensive numbers! No chance of promotion with this idiot in charge...

He didn't say anything unexpected this morning, but that's not to say that there's no point in moaning about it.

I wanted him to come out and talk about what he's been doing on the training ground to address what went wrong against Sheff Utd, not come out with the same old Sunday League bullshit we've had for 2 years. To offer us supporters some hope that we can expect more than just players with pulled-up socks and correctly worn boots taking to the pitch on Saturday. That there might be some semblance of a formation or game-plan.
