He said, in his opinion, the club needs him but wouldn’t be surprised if the new owners had different ideas. Self belief surely goes with the territory, you are not going to put yourself in the firing line where anyone can and will have a pop without possessing a great deal of confidence in your abilities.

I'm not convinced that a manager who was one game away from taking us up deserves the bullet. But I would like to think that the new owners would take stock and review things in December and know who they want to replace Bruce if they feel the need to. Any new manager would need to be in before mid season the transfer window. If we need to replace Bruce at some point so be it, but ideally we will be challenging from day one and there will be no need for change.

I can see him going in and trying to convince them he needs journey men to steady the ship, allow us to be more competitive than relying on the younger players, there just not ready for the championship, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday. Bruce, in the biggest job he will ever have, with owners who are effectively richer than anybody outside of Man City, given FOSUN restriction on capital flight, and he's going to try and talk himself out of the job on day 4?

Would that not just be a formal way of telling him that (for example) they wanted a younger squad recruited going forward and also setting specific targets regarding league position? Which if not achieved meant he would be sacked.

If they will be looking at putting together a younger squad, that would mean a younger manager too. With 3 weeks left before the window closes, a management team that knows the squad, where it needs strengthening and presumably having worked out targets in case of this scenario, the likliest scenario presumably would be that Bruce is given a little bit of time.
