Columbus Crew might be moving to Austin.

Also possible that people in Columbus who have already paid for 2018 ST’s might not get a refund

Seems like the owner is trying to blackmail the local authorities into building them a new stadium in Columbus city centre, even though their current stadium is only twenty minutes from the city centre, ideal for their needs, and less than twenty years old. Hopefully the league tell him to get fucked.

One of the many things about sport in the Colonies that I'll never get my head round is billionaire owners expecting local authorities to build/finance their stadium

Expecting and succeeding in most, if not all, cases. Taxpayer-subsidised sport sounds a bit Socialist.

Revenue sharing, the draft, city-financed stadiums. Colonial sport is bordering on Communism

This is an interesting topic. Many years ago I worked in Baltimore MD. Whilst I was there I adopted the ‘Baltimore Colts’ as my NFL team (they played in Blue & White).

They wanted the City council to upgrade or replace the dilapidated Memorial Stadium for them. After years of whingeing and whining about lack of support from the City, crap team/results and declining attendances (sound familiar?) the owner upped sticks and moved the franchise to Indianapolis, almost literally overnight.

Interestingly the NFL archives records the ‘Colts Franchise’ as one unbroken record. In their eyes the franchise is the most important and relevant thing and its home city location as of secondary importance.

Personally I prefer our own parochial tribalism and look forward to the latest episode this weekend,

Cheers

IIRC folks on here are well versed in NFL history

Excellent playoff match last night btw Atlanta & Columbus. End-to-end action, great saves from Guzan and Steffen, numerous shots off of the posts and crossbar....

...ended 0-0 and anti-climatically went to penalties where Atlanta crumbled and/or Columbus' keeper saved the day.

EDIT: MLS Record attendance for match (67,221)

MLS Semi-finals  (two-legs):

Columbus v Toronto
Seattle v Houston

Interesting scenario shaping up here with Columbus on the verge of a championship then possibly moving to Austin. #DoYouBelieveInMiracles?

I think it is Seattle v Toronto in the final but can't say for sure because the TV coverage of this has been shite - mostly because Fox Sports had half of the matches and it is college american football season. (Fox Sports isn't on "freeview" on many cable/satellite packages)

Toronto v Seattle, Saturday at 9pm UK time.

Would like to see a Canadian team liberate the trophy from the Great Satan.

Time to make amends for last season. TFC was the best team in MLS last year and were just so flat and lifeless in the final. A very disappointing game all round. Could have won it very late on but for a spectacular save from their keeper (a bit like Guzan vs Samba). This season we have been even better and if the key players do their bit (Gio and Altidore with ex-Villa legend Bradley pulling the strings) then overall TFC will have too much for Seattle. And especially as it is essentially a home game.
