I've  just read that hourihane is more of a holding midfielder than id thought:

I don’t think he’s this box-to-box midfielder that everyone touts him as. He just sits infront of the back four and breaks up play. He makes decisive passes and creates from deep.

That's good news. Means we can play a two and means we don't have to play Jedinak

The new signings certainly now give us options.  I would personally look to play a system that incorporates a midfield three and two strikers, so would go with:

I have left a question mark up front as I hope we can bring in another forward in the window.  If not then I would be inclined to give Ayew a chance in that position.

I simply look forward to many selections that have Hutton and Driftwood nowhere near them.

Seems to me that 9 are now nailed on starters:  Johnstone; Bree, Chester, Baker, Amavi; Hourihane, Lansbury, Bjarnason; Kodjia.  Final two places to be filled probably by a two from Grealish, Adomah and Jedinak.  Given that SB seems to like us to be tighter and more competitive away from home I think he could go with 4-1-4-1:

Whereas at home he could do a more expansive 4-4-1-1:

I'm a little concerned about Bree's age and experience.  People tend to love an attack minded full back and paper over his defensive frailties-We are currently seeing it with Amavi and in the past we saw it with Lowton and before him Kyle Walker (who was very young at the time here and whilst good going forward, made numerous defensive cock ups, resulting in goals against.  I personally like older heads across my back 4.  For this reason, I'm going with Hutton to begin with:

I also suspect that Bjarnson maybe under threat if a wide left sided player comes in between now & Tuesday.  I'm a little worried that the midfield may be a tad too attack minded but given I don't think we'll make the play offs, I'd like the next 10 or so games with something like the above.  I would see Kodjia as the free man/number 10 type of player with a traditional number 9 ahead of him/to the side of him.
