Its a shame that in the city the size of ours there is not enough business for a club like the Villa to keep a presence in the centre.

I agree, mate. Took the wife in there in September and she loved it. Hopefully they'll move to another place.

The airport might be a good spot for a shop, if it weren't so pokey.

Haha. And then she was taken to the ground. What a sight it is, always. She loved it, aswell.

It wouldn't. Tourist spend there on touristy stuff is negligible.

Oddly, the only place I've seen Villa merchandise on sale outside of the West Midlands was Dublin airport. Agree though, you're unlike to buy Villa gear at an airport so don't think it's much of a goer.

It might be worth it if we had more flights to places like India, Pakistan, China and others but not at present.

Airport stores cost an absolute fortune - FAR more than New Street.  It's very, very difficult to get space in them.

And even then it's often for the advertising value rather than the income.

The day of the shop is slowly coming to an end and online retail is the way forward

It's about time Villa recognised this and improved the online shopping "experience" for people who have no choice but to buy their Villa stuff electronically. The online shop is rubbish.

I can't be arsed to look, but i bet there's a thread on some Bluenose forum with the "It's because all Villa fans are from outside Birmingham" line being thrown around.

A while ago I bought online one of the autographed pictures of the European Cup winning team and paid extra to get it next day.

What they failed to say on the site was that next day actually meant the next day after they got it in stock, not next day after you order and as they had no stock it could mean anytime! The site did not say 'out of stock' or anything like it.

I had to phone and complain to get my extra payment back!

I've seen lots of other teams' shirts and tat in airports around the world, but never any Villa stuff. Perhaps a shop is too much, but at least a presence in a tourist tat outlet might work. Most major airports have something that represents the culture of that city or region - Hamburg airport, for example, flogs St Pauli and HSV stuff. I understand it's different with Villa, Brum airport (which is poxy) and the city of Birmingham generally.
