Not the best atmosphere singing-wise but most intimidating and hostile atmosphere was Blues 03/03/03, which I'm sure everyone would agree with. Never seen anything like it before or since. The only way anything will come close is if we play them in a League Cup or Play Off semi final.

My favourites have all been mentioned above but my grandad spoke reverently of the atmosphere of the QPR and Southampton FA cup games in 1969 l think - 41,000 and 59,000 respectively.

I was at the QPR Cup game in 1969 - in the old Witton Lane - terrific atmosphere with Tommy Docherty's new team playing the team he'd left us for (after only a few weeks).

It's hard to choose my 5 favourites. but if pushed for games I went to - I'd go for :

1994 Inter Milan
1977 QPR (LCSF)
1975 Blues
1982 Anderlecht
1976 Liverpool

Yeah that Blues game in 2003 was so strange. Atmosphere was so volatile the wife kept grabbing me getting panicked saying she didn't like it and wanted to leave. There was then numerous fights and confrontations going on about us on the route back to the car she made us run all the way lol it took a while before she was comfy going again.

I recently watched the brief highlights on sky's classic games - even all these later watching on tv the horrible atmosphere comes over loud and clear.  Obviously, it wasn't helped by us having 2 players sent off.  It's always been hostile against them for as long as I can remember, but this night was the strangest atmosphere of all.  Definitely a good move for this not to be an evening game any more.

Didn't God hit our own post in the last minute of the Utd league cup game ? Afterwards Big Ron said he didn't want to give away a corner. Really noisy night I remember.

That's right.

Giggs getting absolute dogs abuse as soon as he got on the pitch, for some reason. The plastics mocking BFR for most of the game, and a world-class surge from the Holte when Deano sent the beggars packing.  One of the last great surges, IIRC.

5 biggest games for me - sadly a long time ago

1978 Villa 2 Barcelona 2

25 April 1981 Villa 3 Middlesboro 0 - last home game & singing "We're gonna win the league"

26 Dec 1989 Villa 3 Man U 0

30 Dec 1989 Villa 2 Arsenal 1

Oct 1990 Villa 2 Inter Milan 0

Runners up April 82 Villa 1 Anderlecht 0

Special mention to Jan 1984 live on BBC1. Villa 1 Liverpool 0 at half time, before we lost 1-3 Ian Rush hat trick. The burning of a Liverpool scarf at the back of the Holte, knees up Mother Brown and the brick through the bus windscreen on the way home to Warwick, our driver was a hero, he must have been frozen !
I think this was the first live to game from Villa Park ?
