Like others not on the toke, I'd be surprised to see him here after this season.  In fact, I can see him going to a challenging Championship side in January.
Smith has already shown good faith in Hause and Konsa.

In footballing terms, its probably best if he moves on.

I get the feeling that he loves it at Villa, so fair do"s if he sees his contract out.

Average Championship defender? Not a chance. If he was fit hed be a decent Premier League centre half.

Was in championship team of year when next to Terry, was excellent for us then. Arguably ruined his career when playing for us injured. Shouldn't be forgotten.

Love him - one of the few genuinely excellent signings of this decade (pre Smith). Great servant and put his body on the line when many others haven't, couldn't or wouldn't.

Whatever happens I wish him all the best.

There were plenty of times Villa fans responded to JT being the best defender in the chumps, by saying he wasnt even the best defender at the Villa. Certainly warrants a free, proper servant to the club.

Dean Smith on James Chester:
"It's been difficult for him. In my eyes he's still the club captain. Once he gets back into the team, he'll have the armband and Jack will give it to him, he's got that respect for him." #avfc

Love that sentiment. Also think its a clever way of getting the armband off jack with the minimum fallout, which might be a helpful thing to do anyway.
