I lived in Pittsburgh for three years when I first came to North America in 1995. So I'm everything Pittsburgh too really, well ice hockey and NFL. Been some very good nights since and has helped to a small degree offset some of the Villa misery. And certainly this season with the Penguins lifting the Stanley Cup on the back of what happened at B6. Since I've been in Toronto, I follow Toronto FC and the Blue Jays a bit.

Have you ever seen a baseball game live? It's one of very few televised sports I just can't get into at all. Not even a smidgen.

Yes many. In Pittsburgh only a few. The new stadium there is lovely but it wasn't built while I was there, but I went to Three Rivers which is also where the Steelers also played. I've watched quite a number of games at the Rogers Centre (AKA Skydome). Baseball is akin to cricket. You have to understand the game to appreciate or understand it. You have to learn about the nuisances of the game just like cricket, and accept how long it can take. I'm not a huge fan of it but the Blue Jays being good recently has got a lot more people interested and following them. Me included.

PNC Park in Pittsburgh is my favourite of the new ballparks.

I'll be there for the four game LA Dodgers @ Pirates series next weekend

Wriggley Field tomorrow night v the Cardinals.
Excuse to drink beer, eat bad food and not really care what is going on in the match.

See I love cricket TV, particularly test cricket but I just don't get baseball. You're right though I don't understand the game so maybe I would enjoy it if I did a little research.

I was a badass at rounders at school but why didn't we just play baseball? You don't see rounders on tv so I can see kids being more up for baseball.

Mate, come to Toronto in the summer. We'll have multiple beers at a Jays game and I will explain it all to you. Simple.

In about 20 years when I can afford it I'll remember this 👍😀

No problem. I've put it into my 2036 planner, pencilled it in for July.

We lost.
Great atmosphere and very warm until the sun went down.
Bars around Wrigley packed even on a Monday night.
Cheers.

Messi Magic at Copa America vs US

Stunning stuff from Messi as Argentina battered the US 4-0 in Copa America. Oh and Brad looking a bit of a plonker for their first.

Aye, Copa America has been great so far and Messi/Argentina in particular. Very enjoyable.

Less impressively, I just realized, from the highlights commentary, that I have mispronounced Guzan all this time.

I support the steelers in AF so I stick to all things Pittsburgh american sport wise now so fuck US soccer untill Pittsburgh has a team.

Not sure how I missed all this.....it's been quite a few weeks in the Burgh.   The Penguins pulled off what at Christmas seemed the improbable, but by May seemed inevitable.

The Pirates are slumping a little bit at the moment, some key injuries has not helped.  I think they will turn it around though and probably make the wild card again.

The Steelers are just consistently good no matter what - and should have another deep playoff run this year.

For a "small market" city, Pittsburgh is very blessed with it's sports teams.   It's no longer a blue collar town, but it's teams seem to carry that underdog attitude with them still.

How come this isn't in the Sports Arena or the Luke Haines thread?

I think it started off as Other [Football] Games - 2016/17 but then morphed into baseball and american sport.
