Tom Ross
« on: June 17, 2016, 08:06:56 PM »
Spotted this on Twitter. Leaving after 35 years. I know some can't stand him and he had the occasional dig at us but I think he's always tried to promote Midlands football when all around the media was consumed in a world of Sky and now BT.
I think his decision was hastened by Free Radio losing the live commentaries with and him doing work for Talkshite.

Franksy and his gang next please.

I like Tom. Good football man. Last season he was doing Talksport slots covering games on Midlands so I hope he will carry on doing that.

I have no issue with Tom Ross. Always was very upfront about his loyalties and what he was trying to do.

I would take his direct , openly inflammatory approach over the Radio WM passive aggressive bullshit any day of the week.

Hell I may even buy the blokes biography.

Tom's a nice chap. He's a friend of the family so i'm kind of biased but he's 10 times as good and unbiased as those clowns over at the BBC who are supposedly meant to be supporting their local teams will ever will be.

Enjoy your retirement Tom.

Yep I loved his battles with George Gavin and fair play to him for covering that lot for all those years. I don't ever recall being disrespectful to us. Good luck on your retirement Tom.

Worked with him for a number of years and you could never fault his passion for the game. Sad news that the local media have given up on football just when we wont have much national coverage.

I think they both fell out towards the end, but they were great to listen to. I think Mr Woodhall interviewed him for H&V for one edition.

I always had the impression that he was obviously one of them, but he wanted West Midlands  clubs in general  to do well.

Compare and contrast with that twat Howell.

In 1998 or so. We had our differences in the past but we got on and I like to think there was a bit of mutual respect. He supported that lot, wanted all the local clubs to do well and was always honest. Gavin was a twat though.

I liked Tom. Decent guy. Met his brother in Vienna I when their Ultras nicked Hatchet's flag.

As I don't live in the promised land anymore, I look back quite fondly at his phone in shows as being a quintessential part of the Friday night as background noise.

As others have said, it's his honesty that prevails over the disingenuous TalkShite style nonsense of Call Me Franksy.

He isn't retiring, just leaving Free Radio.  I suspect he may end up at TalkSport.

Who knows, he may even pitch up on WM?

I remember last year he said he'd been approached by WM, but chose to stay where  he was.

I can imagine him taking on the likes of Eddie.
