Villa v Forest Next Season
« on: May 29, 2016, 06:59:16 PM »
Next season will mark the first time ever that former English winners of the European Cup have met each  other outside of the top division.  At least they can't take Rotterdam away from us.

Pretty sure it will be the first time in any country that 2 former winners of the European Cup have met for a league game outside the top flight.

You are probably right.  Hard to take at moment but lets wait  and see.   On a bit of downer with the calibre of managers making themselves available to the Villa are dwindling by the day.

Can't take away Rotterdam but can give us Rotherham.

I thought it was any clubs in Europe who'd won the European Cup/UCL? Happy to be corrected...

There's also probably going to be two Champions League winning managers facing each other in next season's championship.

Yeah and such a juicy prospect it is too.  Would love to go to the City Ground again (the only previous time was for a Euro 96 group game, and that was fun).  Think Forest maybe up the shitter even more than us.  Another club who have been so badly mis-managed in recent years and whose history just weighs down on them.  At best their a mid-table club now, and with some heavy weights dropping down and many big clubs, plus the likes of Brighton ever improving I see it being another tough season for Forest next time.  All this meaning that the fixtures between us and them could have all the more riding on them.

I've only been the City Ground once, as a youngster when from memory Mcgrath buried a late-ish header in front of us and the away end was bedlam. Good times.

92-93 right? What a great goal that was, and just how important a guy like Mcgrath was to Villa to pull that rabbit out of the hat when the strikers are having an off day.

Yeah, it was spring time I think not too long before we imploded and handed Manure the title.

I went to my first ever top level football match at Forest in 1966, which, if I recall correctly, was quite a good year for football

Edit: Ooops - put wrong year in first time.

My first visit to the City Ground was 1989. My first visit when I actually managed to get in was 1990.
