How we do or don't do next season, regardless of pre season warm up games is pure speculation. Nobody can predict with any certainty what the future holds until we know whether Tony Xia is going to put his money where his mouth is.  What is happening at the moment is that RDM, Steve Clarke and Kevin Bond are giving the players a chance to prove themselves.  It is entirely right and proper that they should.  If we are not winning games by the autumn the owner will have to get his cheque book out in January.  I think Tony Xia knows the score and knows how important a quick return to the top flight is for his investment.

Does anyone that was at the game know why some of our fans were teargassed by the French police?

I saw pictures of that earlier on facebook. No idea what went on but going by the live footage, there didn't seem to be any problems in the away end. It all looked a bit heavy handed, there wasn't that many of us there.

An over the top response to a handful of drunks.

Fans were asked to move on after the game. 6 of them, absolutely hammered according to eye witnesses refused or were being obstinate. They have a zero tolerance policy over there and somewhat understandable given recent events in that country albeit non football related. It was over the top but then the fans played a part too.

I agree, it shouldn't be underestimated. I was saying in a different thread that I expect us to start steady and then pick up momentum after a few games. There's going to be a settling in period. I think Newcastle are favourites and in the end we will go up second.

Although it probably is wise not to read too much into the line up yesterday, the midfield remains an area of concern for me.  To see midfield still containing Westwood and Bacuna was disappointing to say the least, friendly or no friendly.  I'm not sure if we lined up with a flat four across the middle or were in a diamond shape, but it looked an unbalanced midfield even on paper.  It will be interesting to see the team this coming Saturday, as I would have thought it will be very close to the XI for Hillsborough.

It all started with the 5 or 6 completely drunk guys in the away end. No problem at first but they started kicking and climbing the fence in front of us during the second half ( one eventually got on the pitch behind the goal ), so stewards came to calm things down which didn't really work but nothing of major importance happened, they were just drunk.

5 or 10 minutes before the final whistle these guys got out of the away end on their own, not escorted by anyone, they looked angry at the stewards I don't really know why, and this is when the riot police came to take them back into our end and randomly teargassed us for no reason, with kids there, instead of dealing with the few that caused trouble. This is why the game was stopped 2 minutes before the end, some of the players received some of the gas into their eyes and mouths, you can see it this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xMGKBpZFfU

The police made it worse with their intervention as almost all the villa fans were peaceful, I guess they were afraid that the fans would want to fight with the Nantes lot which would've not happened if they could've simply handled 5 drunks. Once the game was over they made us walk out of the stadium by another exit so we would not go out with the Nantes fans, I left quickly with my dad so we didn't see anything that may have happened afterwards.

I wonder if Amavi will get a run out tomorrow. I also wonder when Clark is back in training? Guzan and Sanchez look like they may have seen the last of BMH if rumours are true.

Sanchez leaving would make me a little sad. I was so excited when he arrived. Such a shame it has not worked out, so far anyway.

and if your coming down the A14 towards Cambridge, rush hour is a bit of a pig..also there are limited pubs near the ground so best to stop somewhere like Histon and drive to the ground for kick off.
