Has Olof Mellberg become a forgotten man? In his day he was a fine captain who played 260 games and never let us down. His gesture on his final game of buying and giving out 3200 shirts to the travelling supporters as a thankyou was unique and very well received. Not all footballers are disloyal.

But where is he now? Well he is back in Sweden and has started his first job in management. Its with a third division club, IF Brommapojkarna and he has done 9 games so far, getting through in the cup and playing 6 friendlies. Their league starts on April 17th and he has to turn round a team relegated from Division 2 last season. At 38 its the start of a new career. Let's wish him the best of luck.

Good player but hardly a club "legend".

The words 'to me' highlighted he was a legend TO ME.

Did not mention him being a club legend.

He was more than a good player.

Cult hero certainly, legend would be pushing it to us oldies. But for someone younger than us, I can see why they'd be edging towards legend.

Loved him as a player, having to cover Ridgewell's annual fcuk ups nearly finished him off here, so frustrating we never saw him and Laursen play as CBs much. When Laursen finally stayed fit for a season Mellberg moved to RB.

A very good defender and servant on the whole for us. Shame he left when he did, maybe slowing down but rather have had him than Knight and Davies.

The comment was 'he was a legend to me'.
Or is this national arguing just for the sake of it week?
I'm overcome with irony today.

A very good player for us, as SHQ says, would have been nice to see him and Laursen as a pairing.

Certainly not forgotten by me.  Gave us many good memories and was no matter the standard of the team or performance was one of those relieable 8 out of 10 level players.   It impressed me how many different pairings he was placed in and yet how he always made the best he could out of them.  He even made a go at playing at full back.

Can't believe he's still only 38 ;) The best of luck to him, hope he has a fine managerial career, and who knows in a few years time when Villa are a league one club maybe he'll be ready to manage us? ;D

Very good player, not a legend but definitely a cult hero.

Him walking off after being subbed in the 5-1 against Blues is one of the best moments of the last 10 years at Villa for me. Hairs on the back of the neck stuff.
