top marks to Villa Boy on youtube for posting this, one of the few season tapes not already uploaded and one of the most eagerly awaited. Heaven.

Well done indeed.  I have just watched the first half of it, up to and including the 3-0 win at Chelsea.  What great memories of a terrific team.  Platt, Cowans and Mcgrath were of course absolutely top drawer, but the video also shows just how good were the likes of Mountfield, Gage, Daley, Spink and, yes, Ormondroyd.

I'm in that, sat behind the Arsenal dugout for the game in December. A younger, slimmer version of me with a full head of hair.

I've just finished that, what great players we had back then.  I'm convinced that had Derek Mountfield not been injured, we'd have got the points to see us over the line.

Oh, Tony Daley.  One of those very rare players that when he received the ball, all those people seated in the stands would be on their feet and those of us standing would all be pushing ourselves forward, all willing Tony Daley to burst goalwards as he often did with a beautiful end product.

At Brentford the other week, I was to meet a friend and I arrived just as the Wolves bus pulled up.  Tony Daley was second off and went straight to the luggage hold to get his stuff out, he was five feet away from me and I so wanted to speak to him just to say hello and say thanks for his efforts for the Villa.  I just couldn't bring myself to do it.  Believe it or not, I'm kind of shy that way.

I also liked Ian Ormondroyd so there!

Sir Graham Taylor inspired us that season. Pity he left for England that summer in 1990 and we got Dr Jo Venglos in which caused a flirt with relegation that season of 90-91!

it's a shame we hadn't had a better start, as it would have given us more points on the board.   I think it was against Coventry where Mountfield got injured - it disrupted us, sadly.

the losses at Coventry and Wimbledon at home , lost us the league.

Didn't we miss a penalty early on - while it was still 0-0 against Wimbledon, and a win would've put us 5 points clear ?

Yes - Platt, usually a very reliable penalty taker, missed it.

The FA Cup qtr Final against  Oldham, The two legged semi final against Middlesboro in a cup, the name of which I cannot recall, losing against Manure thanks to a Mark Robins goal. All took the wind out of our sails.

That and SGT signing that camel Cascarino when we should have signed Sheringham.

Sad end but what a season.

I used to watch this video almost every day when I was 11. That pre-Christmas through to Spurs in March was such a brilliant few months, where we were the best team in the country.

Football's was so different then - you can't go from almost relegated one season to challenging for the title the next nowadays... Oh.
