Premier League to cap cost of tickets for away fans at £30
« on: March 09, 2016, 01:06:58 PM »
From the Beeb. Good timing eh?

Quote
Premier League clubs have agreed plans to cap away tickets at £30 for the next three seasons.

The cost of watching football has been a hot topic of debate, with supporters at Liverpool organising a high-profile protest over proposed increases in season ticket prices.

Now the top flight's 20 clubs have "unanimously agreed" that more should be done to help away fans.

The £30 away ticket cap will be introduced from next season.

In a statement, the Premier League said away fans were "essential for match atmosphere" and helped make the league unique.

It also recognised that away fans often had travel costs to pay on top of the price of a matchday ticket.

So, theoretically next season we could be paying more to watch Villa away at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship than away fans are paying the same day at Man City, Chelsea etc

Excellent news. I'm sure there will be some who say it's still too much, but the amount of times I've paid £40-50 for away tickets at Man U, Liverpool, loads of the London clubs (even smaller ones like QPR charging £45 recently), this makes a big difference. Shame we won't be around to reap the benefits.

Annoying isn't it. I know Small Heath fans were charged £35 at Sheff Wednesday this season

I think Norwich were still charging £40 when they went down.

Surely it's now only a matter of time before the Championship follow suit? Ideally with a lower cap of £20.

That would be nice but unlikely. The Championship clubs who've never been in the PL already think it's an uneven playing field due to the parachute payments.  They will want to still be able to charge what they want.

A bit bleeding late now, although it is a step in the right direction.

When do they announce that they will only be selling one category of tickets ... Where a child ticket costs the same as an adult.

A good compromise, it was never going as low as 20 quid realistically.

Yeah bad time to go down, I read last week Bolton fans paid 41 quid for Leeds away.

Given we'll take good numbers away to most grounds we will get fleeced down there compared to what premier league will be paying so that will be very odd!

its seeing stories like this that make you realise that only the premier league matters.
And, being in the PL is the only place to be.

How many more PL things are going to take place that has no relevance to Aston Villa FC.

no chance. with the disparity in tv money between the two leagues, there is more pressure on tickets prices in the championship. it represents a far larger income stream in percentage terms.

our travelling support will get rinsed at every ground next season.

Good announcement, even if we might not benefit immediately. Well done to Brigada and all the others who put pressure on the clubs.

The cynic in me is thinking that tickets that might have been £23-£25 this season may suddenly all become £30 next year.

Not that it'll affect us anyhow!
